Chris Massimilian Award

  • In 2014, Top Tier lost one of its own when Chris Massimilian tragically passed away. Chris played in the program from 2009-2011 and helped lead Top Tier to back-to-back CABA World Series championships in 2009 and 2010. As a player, Chris was much more than an athletic switch-hitting outfielder. Chris embodied everything Top Tier baseball is all about. His character, his magnetic personality, galvanized the team, making it a cohesive unit. His tireless work ethic pushed every player to be better. His passion for the game, for life, energized everyone around him. Now, all of Chris's indelible characteristics will live on every year with the Top Tier Award.

  • David Craan

"We are extremely excited about David being a part of our Fighting Illini baseball family. David has continually shown superior baseball and athletic skills during his multi-sport high school career. On the baseball field he has set himself apart from other players with his throwing ability and his explosive running ability. He is a potent offensive threat at the plate and on the base paths. Defensively, David is capable of playing multiple positions due to his great athleticism. Behind the plate he commands respect of his pitching staff due to his leadership qualities and abilities, as well as, physically being able to shut down opponents running games. However, most impressive and most important, is the type of person David is and what he stands for on a daily basis. He has excelled in the classroom, worked in the community to give back and to make our world a better place. We are looking forward to David having a positive impact on our team, the university and our community.

David's honor of being named as the Top Tier Player of the year is well deserved. Having the honor of playing for one of the top programs in the country and being recognized as their top player because of his completeness as a human being speaks volumes of David's character and his upbringing by his parents and extended family."
