2017 RHP Alex Mahaz Commits to University of Wisconsin-Stout

Congrats on your new commitment! What is it about the University of Wisconsin-Stout that excites you the most?

The Supply Chain Management degree at UW-Stout has a unique blend of supply chain, engineering fundamentals, operations, business and management classes. No other college offers this combination of coursework! I am excited to be majoring in such a well-rounded program. UW Stout is a Polytechnic University which also appealed to me. I am also extremely excited to be part of the Blue Devils baseball team. I had several conversations with Coach Kincaid before I made my decision and I already have so much respect for him.

You have spent your entire high school career with Top Tier. Talk a little bit about your experience.

Top Tier was the best decision I ever made regarding my baseball career. Top Tier took me to the next level. The winter workouts, although brutal at the time gave me a whole new appreciation for working out to improve my fitness and skill ability have incorporated many of things we did during the winter workouts into my daily workout program. I gained valuable instruction and feedback from my pitching and hitting lessons with Seth and Griff. Top Tier is more than an organization. It’s a family that I am proud to be part of.
Talk a little bit about the recruiting process and how everything went down.

I enjoyed the recruiting process. It was helpful to visit several campuses and meet with the coaches. I also had the opportunity to talk with players on the teams and partake in a couple of overnight visits.
What were some of the priorities you looked at when deciding where to commit?

My first priority was the education that I would be receiving. The baseball piece was also important, but if for some unforeseeable reason I’m not able to play, I wanted to make sure I was attending a school that met my academic goals. I was also looking for a school that was larger than my high school, but not too big. I wanted smaller classroom sizes and an opportunity to really get to know my professors.
What challenges do you see ahead of you before you get to campus?

I’m excited to move forward with the next step towards my future. It will be a big change to move out and be four hours from home, but I’m looking forward to the responsibilities it will bring.
What are some of the goals you have set for yourself as a college baseball player?

I want to effectively manage my studies along with continuing to work out each day. I want to learn as much as I can from my college coaches so I can significantly improve. I want to be the best player that I can be and I believe the UW Stout coaches will guide me there.

Is there anybody you would like to give a shout-out or thanks to?

I will never be able to thank my parents enough. They always believed I would reach the goals I made for myself. I am so thankful for their encouragement and support. I would also like to thank all of my coaches from little league thru travel ball, especially all of the coaches at Top Tier which includes, Matt, Griff, Seth, Garza and Neil!
