2018 RHP Justin Schoefernacker Commits to Aurora University

Congrats on your new commitment! What is it about Aurora University that excites you the most?

Thank you! I am most excited about the new all-turf stadium that will be finished by next spring. I'm also excited to join a successful baseball program and have the opportunity to continue my baseball career.

You spent your last couple of season with Top Tier. Tell us about your experience and what it means to wear the TT?

My experience with Top Tier has exceeded all my expectations of a baseball program. I have nothing but good things to say about the coaching staff and program as a whole. Top Tier has not only helped me grow as a baseball player, but as a person as well. Wearing the TT means that you’ve gone through the grind with a group of players all determined to reach a common goal.

Talk a little bit about the recruiting process and how everything went down.

The recruiting process was very stressful yet had its good moments. At the beginning, I was talking to a number of schools but it was hard to know who was really interested in me. The summer going into senior year more schools started to contact me and I started to go on visits. After numerous visits, it became clear that Aurora was the best fit for me academically and athletically.

What were some of the priorities you looked at when deciding where you wanted to commit?

I wanted a school that had a good reputation academically and athletically. The biggest factor was finding somewhere that I fit in and felt as if I could see myself still going there 3 or 4 years down the road. Athletically, I wanted a school that had a good environment as well as facilities.

What challenges do you see ahead of you before you get to campus?

The biggest challenge will definitely be getting used to the college life but I think that having a baseball schedule will definitely help me throughout the whole process.

What are some of the goals you have set for yourself as a college baseball player?

My goal is to make as big an impact as I can my freshman year. I want to do whatever I can to help my team continue being successful.

Is there anybody you would like to give a shout-out or thanks to?

First off, I would like to thank my parents for all of the time they have invested into me as an athlete whether it be in baseball or hockey. They have made numerous efforts to help me grow as an athlete. I would also like to thank Coach Phelps, Coach Plante, Coach Garza and the rest of the Top Tier staff for helping me progress as a baseball player and pushing me to my limits every time I worked.
