2019 INF Michael Chialdikas Commits to Oakland

Congrats on your new commitment! What is it about Oakland University that excites you the most?

I always had a goal of going to a good college and being able to play Division 1 baseball. Oakland University provides me with the opportunity to get a good education and play in a great baseball conference.

You made the jump and joined Top Tier for the 2017-2018 season. Tell us what that experience has been like, why you made the jump, and what it means to wear the TT?

I knew making the jump to Top Tier would be challenging but would also be very rewarding. I learned a lot from the coaches and played with some of the best players in the area. I made the jump wanting to play against the best competition and the opportunity to be recruited. Wearing the TT on my jersey meant a lot to me. It meant I was representing a great organization. It also made me more confident as a player and humbled me as a person.

Talk a little bit about the recruiting process and how everything went down.

The recruiting process was not easy. Playing for Top Tier gave me exposure and generated interest from schools. After visiting the schools, I knew Oakland was the place for me.

What were some of the priorities you looked at when deciding where you wanted to commit?

I wanted to go to a school where I could get a good education and play in a good baseball program and conference. I also wanted to go to a school where I have a chance to play right away.

What challenges do you see ahead of you before you get to campus?

I think it will be hard at first getting used to balancing my time with school work and baseball. I also think getting used to living away from home will be challenging at first.

What are some of the goals you have set for yourself as a college baseball player?

I plan to work hard to be the best player I can possibly be and see what happens from there. I also hope to be able to contribute from my freshman year through my senior year.

Is there anybody you would like to give a shout-out or thanks to?

First of all, I would like to thank my family, especially my parents. Without them I would not be the person I am today. They have supported me throughout my life and have helped me get to this point. I would like to thank all the coaches who I played for and helped me mature as a player and person. I would also like to thank all my friends and teammates who have pushed and supported me in my baseball career. Lastly, I would like to thank the whole Top Tier organization. Without Tier I don't know if I would have the chance to play college baseball. Top Tier was able to give me the chance to get recruited and helped me develop into a better baseball player.
