2019 MIF Jalen Greer Commits to Mizzou

Congrats on your new commitment! What is it about Mizzou that excites you the most?

What excites me the most about Mizzou are the coaches. They have lots of baseball experience and have coached some of the best players. The Mizzou coaches followed me all summer long and came to my games no matter what time of day or night. To me, this meant they were really interested in me and I really appreciate the attention Mizzou gave me.

You have been with Top Tier since you were 13. Tell us about your experience and what it means to you to play for an organization like TT.

I started at Top Tier at 13U and it’s been great ever since. Top Tier is my second home. I love all the coaches at Top Tier. Every coach at there has pushed me very hard during every practice and game. The TT coaches go ton me really hard over the years because they wanted me get better and go to the next level. This is something I will never forget from all the coaches at Top Tier. Not only are the TT coaches great, but they also recruit other great players and families. I have numerous fond memories playing with my teammates at Top Tier.

Talk a little bit about the recruiting process and how everything went down.

My recruiting process began Fall 2016. Over the winter, I went on a couple visits to different schools. Everything picked up fast at the start of the 2017 summer season. My Top Tier coaches told me to start calling various schools and go on multiple visits. After the PBR Futures Games is when I seriously began looking at my top choices of where I wanted to play college baseball. I narrowed my choices to 3 schools. I had 3 visits planned on three straight weekends. After the visit were done I knew exactly where I wanted to be – Mizzou!

What were some of the priorities you looked at when deciding where you wanted to commit?

I had a couple priorities I considered before making a decision. My main priority was the school campus. I wanted to picture myself on a campus with a great academic setting and a good feel. My next priority was playing time. Will I get lots of playing time at this particular school freshman year? Also, the academics played a major role in my choice. I wanted a school that had my major and I would finish with a reputable degree.

What challenges do you see ahead of you before you get to campus?

I have to get bigger, faster, and stronger. I want to fit in with the older players at Mizzou on day one. Also, I want to get better at the little things when playing the game. I want to get my grades and GPA up and perform well on the ACT.

What are some of the goals you have set for yourself as a college baseball player?

I want to contribute to the team and help them get better. I know every team in the SEC wants to win the CWS and I would like to help Mizzou win the title. I want to get better physically and mentally. Mizzou has many resources and I plan on using all of them to get to the next level. I also want to become an every day starter when I get there.

Is there anybody you would like to give a shout-out or thanks to?

I first want to give thanks to my grandpa. He has been there for me since day one. My grandpa is the male role model in my life. He has taken me to all of my training sessions, practices, and games. Whenever I asked something from him, he would get it done. He has never let me down. He always gets on me on the car ride home after training sessions, practices, and games. He's always the first to congratulate me, too. I next want to thank my gramdma and mom. They have always been there for me and have always believed in me. Next to Coach Gil (15U American Coach) and Coach Davidson (Top Tier Roos Coach). Coach Gil has always believed in me and never doubted me. He always told me I was going to be a great player and go the next level. I have not been coached by Coach Davidson for a longtime but when I met him, I immediately felt a positive connection with him. Whenever I struggled, he would be the first to say “you’re gonna have bad days sometimes”. I would like to thank Coach Plante, Coach Phelps, Coach Fine, Coach Kenny, Coach Strebler, and Coach Garza for pushing me to my full potential. Thanks to Anthony Ray (X-Ray) for being my mentor. Thanks to Jessica Hunter for always taking care of me. Thanks to every one who has helped me on my journey.
