2020 INF Blake Wright Commits to USF

Congrats on your new commitment! What is it about South Florida that excites you the most?

Without a doubt, to play for Coach Mohl and the USF coaching staff. I feel that USF is on the rise and can’t wait to be a part of representing my city. The South Florida campus and education is top of the line. I feel that I will have a shot to play right off the bat. I also feel that USF will help me achieve my goal of making it to the next level.

You were part of the inaugural class of the Top Tier Roos last summer. Tell us about your experience with the Roos and what it means to wear the TT?

My experience with the Roos is unforgettable. I feel that being apart of the Roos and Top Tier is like being part of my family. Many unforgettable memories and experiences that I will have forever. Putting on the TT jersey no matter where we go, everyone knows we are the team to be dealt with. It is an honor to be wearing the Top Tier logo across my chest.

Talk a little bit about the recruiting process and how everything went down.

Colleges began reaching out after the PG World Series that Top Tier was in 2017. Through the high school season, PBR showcase events, and Top Tier travel ball tournaments coaches began to reach out for me to connect with them on a daily basis. All of my coaches from Top Tier would have me contacting colleges each night where we would discuss my opportunity of playing at that school. My family and I would go and visit the campus to see if it was the right fit for me. Throughout the country I got to experience some incredible journeys while looking for that right school. Towards the end of the summer I really started to narrow down my decision where I decided that USF is the best fit for me.

What were some of the priorities you looked at when deciding where you wanted to commit?

The number one priority for me was the right fit with the coaching staff and taking myself to the next level. I really wanted to go to college where I could make an immediate impact right off the bat in their lineup. The academic piece was a very important part of making the decision. Being close to home and having my family and friends being able to come watch me play is a bonus.

What challenges do you see ahead of you before you get to campus?

Before I get to USF, I know that I will have to continue to work hard both on the field and in the classroom so that when I enter as a freshman, I will be ready to perform. My goal is to start as freshman and I know that from now until then I will have to work very hard.

What are some of the goals you have set for yourself as a college baseball player?

A very important goal to  me is to take my city and my team to Omaha. I want my coaches to understand that my attitude and hard work  will reflect my leadership both on and off the field. My goal is to have an immediate impact as a freshman at USF and my ultimate goal is to be able to have the opportunity to become a Major League Baseball player.

Is there anybody you would like to give a shout-out or thanks to?

First off, I would like to thank my Mom and Dad for all the dedication and time they have put in for me to be the best player and person I could possibly be. Nothing would be possible if it wasn’t for them. I would specifically like to thank Coach Jason Miller and BC for coaching me since I was 9 years old at each level and  keeping us all together giving myself and team opportunity. Big shout out thanks to all of my teammates from travel ball and high school . Thanks Top Tier organization Coach Andy Fly, Coach Griff, Coach Jordan for taking all the calls and contacts during the recruiting process.Thank You Coach Todd Vaughn and all of the Clearwater Central Catholic coaching staff for all the that you do. Thank You USF Bulls for giving me the opportunity!! I'm excited to become a Bull!!!
