Alumni Roundup: Week 12

We're down to the final few weeks of the regular season, which is inarguably the most exciting time of the year for college baseball fans. We're getting a look at our alums finish off great seasons, earn awards, make a postseason push and cement their legacies.

Here's what took place over the first weekend of May:

Wes Mendes
 (Florida State) got back on track this past Friday, picking up his eighth win of the 2026 campaign. He went the distance, throwing nine innings allowing just one run on five hits. He K’d seven Pittsburgh hitters in the outing. Because of his performance, he earned himself the ACC Pitcher of the Week Award – the second time this year he’s been dubbed the P.O.W.

 

Jimmy Anderson added three homers in the final week of the regular season for Heartland. He added four doubles to total seven XBH in five games. Anderson finishes the regular season hitting .450. Just 17 strikeouts to his 24 homers. Anderson and the Hawks begin the NJCAA Region 24 tournament on Friday at the Corn Crib against Lewis & Clark or Spoon River.

 

John Abraham (Florida State) picked up a save on Saturday – his sixth on the year. He threw three innings and allowed a run on two hits. He K’d five bringing his season strikeout total to 55 in just 41.2 innings. Abraham continues to be one of the strongest options out of the ‘pen in the nation.

 

Hunter Dietz added to his All-SEC caliber season last Friday, helping Arkansas to a 12-2 drubbing of Ole Miss. Dietz went six frames and struck out nine. He allowed a run on four hits and four walks but nothing else in a stress-free evening for the Razorbacks. Dietz still holds the SEC lead in K’s at 101 – the first pitcher in the conference to surpass the triple digit mark.

 

Tommy Townsend (Xavier) had four hits last week in games against Miami (Ohio) and Georgia Tech. He capped off the weekend with a two-homer performance against GT in Atlanta. He added to his season total of seven homers this season. He drove in four runs on the day and six on the week.

 

Jack Bauer (Miss. St.) picked up his fourth win of the season on Saturday against Texas in Austin. He threw 2.1 innings, gave up four walks and a hit but no runners crossed. He struck out three Longhorns hitters. Bauer’s season K total is 25 to 10 walks in 16 innings.

 

Steven Milam (LSU) picked up five hits last week including a two hit game against South Carolina on Friday. He drove in a pair of runs in the Friday contest as well.

 

Cal Schembra (Valparaiso) is wrapping up what looks to be a Freshman All-MVC type of season. He had three hits last week including a triple. He’s hitting .259 on the year.

 

Josh Outlaw had five hits including a double against Iowa and Valpo last week. Graham Mastros had a double and a homer on the weekend contributing to the sweep of Valpo. Mastros has a five-game hit streak, staying hot heading into the final run of the season.

 

Peter Ensign and the Taylor University Trojans are regular season Crossroads League champions and Crossroads League tournament champions. The No. 1-ranked NAIA team is headed to the NAIA Opening Round and will find out who they will host tonight.


David Andolina (Lehigh) earned the Lehigh Athletics Marlene (Linny) Fowler Service Award. The award is part of a handful of awards given to students at the Lehigh Athletics Student-Athlete Convocation. Andolina is the founder of ECON 001 Student-Athlete Tutoring Program, member of Baseball Senior Leadership Group and a two-time student-athlete mentor co-captain.
