Mack Whitcomb is finishing the 2025 regular season just as he started, making noise and standing out in the OVC. Daniel Pacella continues to raise draft stock with his play and Tomas Valincius is finding his groove once again for the Cavaliers. Here's how our guys are doing after the first full week of May..
Week 13
Daniel Pacella (Illinois State) has progressively worked his way into serious draft conversations, not only this season, but the body of work since his freshman year has landed him as an MLB Draft prospect. Draft eligible this summer, Pacella is ranked No. 105 in D1Baseball's Top-150 outfielders.
Pacella had five hits, including two doubles and a homer last week against Northern Illinois and UIC. He's hitting .359 heading into the last week of play for the Redbirds. Illinois State is sitting at a 24-25 record, and though postseason goals they once had before the season may not be attainable, Pacella has a chance to earn individual accolades and make Redbird nation proud of the 2025 campaign.

Mack Whitcomb (Tennessee Tech) earns OVC Player of the Week honors once again - his second such award of the 2025 season. Whitcomb hit .500 on the week with three homers, five RBI and six runs scored. In the finale of the weekend series against Lindenwood, Whitcomb hit three homers in consecutive at-bats. The series win against Lindenwood has propelled the Golden Eagles to the top of the OVC standings. We expect to see much more of Whitcomb with postseason play coming up.

Tomas Valincius (Virginia) had a solid outing on Sunday against Miami (FL). He went 6.1 innings with three runs allowed on five hits. That outing was good enough to notch him a win - his fourth of the year. He K'd seven of the 27 batters he faced and helped lift the Cavaliers to a 8-6 victory.

Vytas Valincius (Illinois) had a 3-for-3 and 4-for-5 showing last week, the former against Bradley and the latter against UCLA. He tallied eight hits across the week with a double and a homer. He knocked in a trio of runs and bumped his average up to .368. Valincius also stole three bases against Bradley and is 10-for-11 this season on SB attempts.

Brendan Summerhill (Arizona) had a pair of doubles on the week, both coming against Utah. He had five hits overall and knocked in two. He's hitting .411 in 112 ABs. He's played 29 games in an injury-shortened season, but looks to finish the season strong as he continues to be a top draft prospect despite taking some time off. Through those 112 ABs, Summerhill has only struck out 13 times which is an impressively low strikeout percentage.
