Alumni Roundup: Week 14

Regular season action has come to a close at all levels of college baseball. Some programs are heading towards postseason play while others are in the midst of a national championship run. Plus, regular season awards are being announced, and the trophy cases are beginning to fill up for Top Tier alums.

Here’s what week 14 brought college baseball fans:

Tomas Valincius (Mississippi State) put a bow on a tremendous regular season. His first regular season in the SEC was a treat to follow, and he capped it off by earning the Ferriss Trophy. The Ferriss Trophy is awarded to the top collegiate player in the state of Mississippi. Valincius was also named First Team All-SEC.

Valincius started 14 games and went 9-2. He struck out 112 hitters over 80 innings and led the Bulldogs to an 8th place finish in the SEC – enough to earn them a bye in the SEC tournament and what looks to be an eventual NCAA Regional bid.

Hunter Dietz (Arkansas) was named First Team All-SEC after a dominant first full college season. 14 starts with a 7-3 record and a conference-leading 117 strikeouts in 78.2 innings was enough to earn Dietz the honorable recognition. Dietz and the Razorbacks earned a double bye in the SEC tournament and will start their postseason on Thursday in Hoover, Ala.

Wes Mendes
(Florida State) was named ACC Pitcher of the Year in a conference media release. Mendes has been the Florida State ace all season long and has continued to trend in the right direction heading into the postseason. Mendes’ regular season included a 9-3 record with 109 strikeouts in 84 innings. He had four double digit strikeout games and was a workhorse, throwing no less than five innings each outing.

Florida State will play in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament on Friday after earning a double bye.

John Abraham (Florida State) earned All-ACC honors being named to the third team. Abraham has a 1.04 ERA on the season over 43.1 innings with six saves and 55 strikeouts. He’s been one of the best relievers in the country, hands down, since day one of the 2026 season.

Steven Milam
(LSU) was named All-SEC and All-SEC Defensive Team after another strong season in Baton Rouge. Milam hit .300 in the regular season with 10 homers and just 23 strikeouts. He made a career-low three errors on the season – good enough for a .981 fielding percentage.

Jimmy Anderson
’s (Heartland CC) dream season fell short of the NJCAA Division II World Series as the Hawks lost to Parkland in the Central Championship. On the year, Anderson hit .460 with 26 homers, 87 RBI and just 18 strikeouts. The body of work displayed over 59 games was good enough to earn him the MWAC Player of the Year. Anderson will be a high draft follow as we head into the summer.

The Missouri Valley Conference saw a pair of Top Tier alums take home end-of-year awards. Michael Addari and Graham Mastros earned First Team All-MVC after a strong season for the Redbirds.

Addari, in his first season with Illinois State, became the Friday night guy and assumed the role valiantly. He had a 4-4 record and a 2.17 ERA across 62.1 innings pitched.

Mastros hit .365 on the year with a career-high 14 homers and 46 RBI.

Jack Bauer
(Mississippi State) was among a slew of Bulldogs to earn postseason awards. Bauer earned Freshman All-SEC honors after a strong first season in Starkville. He had a 4-0 record and threw 21 innings over 13 appearances. He K’d 30 hitters and walked 12.

Liam Peterson
(Florida) had a strong final outing of the regular season. Against LSU, he went seven innings, one run on three hits. He K’d 11 Tigers in the outing and earned his second win of the year. Though it hasn’t been the season Peterson was hoping for, the Gators are in a strong position as a team for a long postseason run.

Jaden Correa
(Morehead State) finished up his first season with Morehead State with a pair of hits against Tennessee Tech. He’s sporting a .320 average heading into the OVC tournament in which the Eagles will face Southern Indiana.

Taylor University, the No. 1 team in NAIA, has qualified for the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho after beating Indiana Tech in the Upland Regional. The Trojans square off against William Carey in the opener on Friday, May 22. Alum, Peter Ensign, has played in 35 games in his freshman season and will look to finish his first collegiate season with a national title.
