Here we are taking a deeper look at one of the top middle infielders in the country in High School baseball in the 2020 MLB Draft class.

Blake Wright is a senior middle infielder from Clearwater Central Catholic High School in Clearwater, Florida who stands at 6'0 and 185 lbs. Wright has really turned himself into a legit shortstop at the next level after playing varsity for three years of his high school career. Wright also has been the spark plug and motor while playing with Top Tier Roos, who are always one of the Top 10 teams in the country in summer baseball. He is ranked the 13th best shortstop by Prep Baseball Report out of an always loaded state of Florida for high school prospects in this years MLB Draft class.

In his sophomore year in 2018 for Clearwater Central Catholic HS, Wright hit .337 and was the teams offensive MVP that year. Later that year, Wright represented Florida in the Prep Baseball Report Futures Games.

In his junior season of 2019 and heading into the summer of that year as well, Wright had started to really make a name for himself as he hit .385 for Central Central Catholic HS, was MVP of the team and was 1st Team All-County. Wright also won numerous tournaments with the Top Tier Roos along with winning a National Championship in the inaugural games of the High School National Championship in Houston, TX where he represented team Florida. All these accolades helped Wright decide that the next best fit for him would be to commit to play college baseball at national powerhouse, Clemson University.

Wright had a great Fall in 2019 of his senior year as he got selected to play on the Yankees Scout team for the Diamond Club Series and also got selected to play on the Reds Scout team in the WWBA in Jupiter, Florida. His great performances at these events have got some MLB scouts talking about him as he headed into his senior year. In his senior season at Clearwater Central Catholic HS, Wright was hitting .370 before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season. In his career at Clearwater Central Catholic, Wright put up great numbers playing in 56 games, having a career batting average of .361 with 16 doubles, 3 triples, 4 homers, 42 RBI's, an on base % of .406 and a slugging % of .539.

Prep Baseball Report has him ranked as the 44th best overall player in the state of Florida in the 2020 class. He is a 6.9 60 yard dash guy, with 85 mph arm velocity across the infield with 92 mph exit velocity off the bat. Prep Baseball Report has his scouting notes as a player with a good athletic frame with room for growth. He has a good clean exchange in the infield with good carry and is accurate with his throws. Wright is said to have a very balanced approach with gap to gap power and good barrel awareness.

If Wright doesn't hear his name get called in this year MLB Draft, he will definitely be a really good collegiate infielder playing for one of the top collegiate programs in the country in the Clemson University in the years to come. MLB Scouts will be watching this young man in his development as he has gotten better year in year out at all levels he has played at.
