MLB 2020 Draft Prospects


MLB 2020 Draft Eligible Andrew Hoffmann, John A. Logan CC:
Here we are taking a deeper look at one of the Top right-handed pitchers coming out of the Junior College ranks for the 2020 MLB Draft Class.



Andrew Hoffmann is a RHP from John A. Logan CC who stands at 6'5 and 200 lbs. Hoffman is ranked the 14th best JUCO prospect by Prep Baseball Report and is 55th and 65th ranked best JUCO prospect by Perfect Game and the JBB. 



Hoffmann spent his freshman year at Oakland University where he made 12 starts, going 2-6 with 6.75 ERA and collected 46 strikeouts in 56 innings of work. Hoffmann was 3rd on the team in strikeouts and was selected to the All-Horizon Freshman Team. 



That summer, Hoffmann went to the Northwoods Collegiate League where he turned a ton of heads by being named 2019 Northwoods League Pitcher of the Year as he led the league in ERA and in wins for the Traverse City Pit Spitters. Hoffmann went 8-0 in 11 starts collecting 43 strikeouts in 58.1 innings of work with an ERA of 1.08. This great summer led Hofffmann to transfer to a powerhouse JUCO, John A. Logan CC the following year.



At John A. Logan CC this season, Hoffmann continued his dominance as he was 5-0 in 5 starts for the Vols with a 2.08 ERA collecting 46 strikeouts in just 26 innings of work with only 7 walks. That is an amazing 15.92 strikeouts per 9 innings. John A. Logan CC was ranked #1 in the country in some polls with a 20-1 overall record before the COVID-19 pandemic ended their season. 



Hoffmann is considered one of the best right-handed pitchers coming out of this class with his projectable 6'5 frame with the ability to get hitters out at all the different levels he has pitched at. Hoffmann has a fastball that is 91-94 mph topping out at 95 mph, with a slider that is 80-82 mph, a curveball that is 77-80 mph and a change-up that is 80-83 mph. Hoffmann is committed to play baseball at University of Illinois next season if things don't work out as well as he would like in this years MLB Draft.
