Tuesday Tip of the Week January 12th

The pursuit of excellence is a common goal for many athletes, regardless of sport. Far too often though, I hear athletes talking about excellence and how they are trying to attain it. This is where they often fail to realize what excellence actually is. What it is not, is a final destination. In fact, excellence is not just a singular item. Excellence is the combination of various choices we all make each and every day.

When pursuing excellence, athletes can start by clearly defining where they are, and where they want to go. By having a clear/concise picture of where you want to go, athletes will be able to make better decisions on how to get where they want to go. Whether it be setting up a training schedule, diet plan, classwork/study hours, or anything else, a clear vision provides clear direction.

Excellence is a daily activity. Start each day with a clear vision of where you want to be by day’s end and work relentlessly to move towards that goal. Excellence will not be reaching that goal. Excellence is found in the many choices you make that help you get there. The pursuit of excellence is a life-long journey that is dynamic and difficult. It takes a uniquely driven individual to maintain the focus, and work ethic to be excellent. Just make sure that when you get into bed at the end of the day, you can stand behind all of your choices with conviction; because you know that each decision moved you a little bit closer towards your goals.
