Week #12 in College Baseball
Top Performances of Top Tier Alumni: Cooper Johnson, Ole Miss wins SEC Player of the Week after hitting .545 over the weekend with a homer, a double and 5 RBI's. Johnson's offensive onslaught helped the Rebels take 2 of 3 from #9 ranked LSU.
Cooper Johnson, Ole Miss
Johnson had on heck of a week both offensively and defensively vs. the #9 ranked LSU Tigers. Johnson was named SEC Player of the week after going 6 for 11, hitting .545 with a homer, a double and 5 RBI's and allowing just one stolen base as a catcher vs. LSU this past weekend. Ole Miss took 2 of 3 from the Tigers to move them to #11 ranked team in the nation with a 32-17 overall record and 15-9 in the SEC. Johnson is hitting .288 for the year with 9 doubles, 6 homers, 23 RBI's and has thrown out 15 of 16 base runners. Ole Miss takes on #8 ranked Mississippi State this upcoming weekend.
Ben Dickey, Northwestern
Dickey went 5 for 14 this past weekend, hitting .357 with a homer and 4 RBI's helping the Wildcats beat ISU in the midweek game and take 2 of 3 from Nebraska over the weekend. The Wildcats improved 21-23 overall and 8-10 in the Big Ten and Dickey is hitting .260 on the year.
Brady Miller, Western Michigan
Miller just got the win vs. Eastern Michigan this past weekend, tossing 6.2 innings giving up only 1 run off 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7. Western Michigan swept Eastern Michigan improving them to 16-26 overall and 9-10 in the MAC. Miller as a freshman has improved to 3-2 with a 3.80 ERA.
Dakota Kotowski, Missouri State
Kotowski collected a hit in every game this weekend, hitting .300 with another homer, a double and 2 RBI's to help the Bears take 2 of 3 from Dallas Baptist. Missouri State improved to 15-31 overall and 6-9 in the MVC. Kotowski is leading the team in batting average, hitting .304 and leads the team in home runs with 10, he also has a slugging % of .627.
Cam Redding, Saint Louis
Redding went 5 for 16, hitting .313 with 4 RBI's this past weekend vs. Rhode Island. SLU took 2 of 3 from Rhode Island and improved to 21-25 overall and 9-9 in the Atlantic 10. Redding is hitting .303 as a freshman with 5 doubles and 22 RBI's on the year.
Eric Giltz, SIUE
Giltz went 5 for 16, hitting .313 with 2 RBI's this past week. SIUE lost to SLU in the midweek game and lost 2 of 3 to Eastern Illinois to fall to 17-28 overall and 9-15 in the OVC. Giltz is hitting .302 on the year.
Ryan Hampe, UIC
Hampe collected a hit in every game this past weekend, with 4 singles and 2 RBI's. UIC won 2 of 3 games vs. UW-Milwaukee to improve to 20-20 overall and 13-10 in the Horizon. Hampe is hitting .373 on the year as a freshman with 11 doubles, 1 homer and 30 RBI's.
Robby McGaha, USC Upstate
McGaha went 3 for 7 on the weekend with a double and 2 RBI's to help USC Upstate win both games vs. Alabama State and improve to 22-22 overall. McGaha is hitting .259 on the year with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 2 homers and 20 RBI's.
Michael Sebby, Illinois State
Sebby made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Indiana State, tossing 2 innings giving up 0 runs off 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. ISU lost 2 of 3 to Indiana State to fall to 28-20 overall and 10-5 in the MVC. Sebby has a 2.53 ERA on the year out of the bullpen for the Redbirds.
Stephen Hill, Morehead State
Hill went 5 for 17, hitting .294 this past week with two doubles and 3 RBI's. Morehead State beat Marshall in the midweek and swept Murray State over the weekend to improve to 32-17 overall and 15-9 in the OVC. Hill is hitting .304 on the year.
Bobby Kametas, Creighton
Kametas earned his 6th save of the year this past weekend in the finale vs. Georgetown. Kametas went 1 inning giving 0 runs on just 1 hit. Creighton swept Georgetown and improved to 29-10 overall and 9-3 in the Big East. Kametas leads the team in ERA with a 1.96 ERA on the year with 20 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work and holding opponents to .086 batting average.
Quinn Snarskis, Illinois
Snarskis got a no-decision in his start vs. Indiana State this past week. Snarskis tossed 5 innings giving up 1 run off 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Illinois beat Indiana State and lost to SIU in the midweek games and took 2 of 3 from #19 ranked Indiana over the weekend to improve to 31-16 and 10-8 in the Big Ten. Snarskis has a 5.40 ERA on the year in his senior season.
Ryan Howe, Purdue
Howe collected a hit in every game this past weekend vs. Michigan State with a double. However, Purdue lost 2 of 3 to Michigan State and fell to 18-28 overall and 7-10 in the Big Ten.
Cal Coughlin, TCU
Coughlin made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. West Virginia, tossing 1.2 innings giving up 0 runs off 3 hits while striking out 1. TCU beat Abliene Christian in the midweek game and took 2 of 3 from West Virginia to improve to 26-20 overall and 8-10 in the Big 12.
Trey Schramm, Xavier
Schramm made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Seton Hall picking up the only win for the Musketeers, tossing 3 innings in the finale giving up 1 run off 2 hits while striking out 2. Xavier lost 2 of 3 vs. Seton Hall and are now 21-27 overall and 10-4 in the Big East. Schramm is 2-1 with 1 save and and ERA of 6.26 on the year.
Matt Burch, Old Dominion
Burch collected 4 hits this past week with a double and an RBI. ODU beat Virginia Tech in the midweek game and took 2 of 3 vs. Louisiana Tech over the weekend to improve to 29-18 overall and 11-13 in C-USA. Burch is hitting .291 on the year with 10 doubles, a homer, 23 RBI's and 14 stolen bases.
Brett Newberg, Austin Peay
Newberg made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Jacksonville, tossing 2 innings giving up 2 runs off 3 hits while striking out 2. Newberg making that appearance this past weekend, made him the all-time number one pitcher in appearances in a career with 96 appearances and counting as a Governor pitcher in a career. Austin Peay beat Jacksonville 2 out of 3 to improve to 26-19 overall and 16-8 in the OVC. Newberg has a 5.25 ERA on the year with 48 strikeouts in 36 innings of work.
Mitch Vogrin, Illinois State
Vogrin made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Indiana State, tossing 1.1 innings giving up 0 runs off 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. ISU lost 2 of 3 vs. Indiana State to fall to 28-20 overall. Vogrin owns a 4.63 ERA on the year.
Bobby Seymour, Wake Forest
Seymour collected another double and 2 RBI's this past weekend in two games. Wake Forest beat Gardner & Webb and lost to High Point and are 27-20 overall and 12-12 in the ACC. Seymour is now hitting .368 on the year with 14 doubles, 7 homers and 72 RBI's. Seymour's 72 RBI's on the year puts him as the nation's leading RBI man for Division 1 players in the country.
Jesse Forestell, Western Michigan
Forestell collected 3 hits over the weekend with a homer and 2 RBI's as Western swept Eastern Michigan. Western Michigan is now 16-26 overall.
Austin Blazevic, SEMO
Blazevic collected 3 hits this past weekend vs. Belmont to help them take 2 of 3 and improve to 22-27 overall and 9-15 in the OVC. Blazevic is hitting .292 on the year.
Cheorkee LeBeau, Oakland
LeBeau collected 3 hits vs. Northern Kentucky this past weekend, however the Golden Grizzlies lost all three games and fell to 10-30 overall and 8-13 in the Horizon. LeBeau is hitting .244 on the year.
Keaton Rice, Bradley
Rice collected 3 hits over the weekend with two doubles and 2 RBI's to help Bradley take 2 of 3 from Valpo to improve to 29-14 overall and 9-6 in the MVC.
Scott Youngbrandt, Saint Louis
Youngbrandt collected 3 hits over the weekend to help SLU take 2 of 3 from Rhode Island to improve to 21-25 overall and 9-9 in the Atlantic-10. Youngbrandt is hitting .237 on the year.
Andrew Hoffman, Oakland
Hoffmann threw well this past weekend but picked up the loss vs. Northern Kentucky, throwing 6 innings, giving up 3 earned runs off 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Oakland is now 10-30 and Hoffmann is 2-5 with a 6.82 ERA as a freshman.
Louis Niemerg, Maryville
Niemerg had a great finishing week for his senior regular season going 5 for 13, hitting .384 with 2 homers, a double and 3 RBI's to help Maryville capture a share of the GLVC Conference Regular Season Champions, which is the 1st in the programs history since joining the conference. Maryville finished the regular season with a 27-20 overall record and were 22-11 in the GLVC. Niemerg finished his senior regular season hitting .314 with 12 doubles, 10 homers and 49 RBI's. Maryville will start the GLVC tournament this upcoming weekend, looking to make a NCAA Tournament bid.
Justin Kelly, Wayne State
Kelly went 5 for 13, hitting .385 this past weekend with a homer, a double and 4 RBI's as Wayne State took 3 of 4 from Saginaw Valley to improve to 33-13 overall and 17-10 in the GLIAC to finish the season. Kelly with a homerun this past weekend became the All-time homerun career leader for Wayne State, hitting 37 in his career there. Kelly finished his senior regular season hitting .338 with 13 doubles, 10 homers and 49 RBI's with a .624 slugging %. Wayne State will be one of the top seeds in the GLIAC tournament that starts this weekend, trying to earn an NCAA Tournament bid.
Peyton Isaacson, Saint Leo
Isaacson went 3 for 10, hitting .300 with 2 RBI's winning 2 of 3 vs. Florida Southern this past weekend to improve to 23-24 overall. On the year as a senior, Isaacson is hitting .330 with 11 doubles, 8 homers, 45 RBI's and .530 slugging %. On the mound, Isaacson has a 2.35 ERA with 5 saves in 7.2 innings of work.
Jake Lotz, Lewis
Lotz made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Truman State, throwing 2 innings giving up 0 runs off 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. Lewis took 2 of 3 from Truman State and improved to 27-22 overall. Lotz is 2-2 with a 4.72 ERA in relief for the Flyers this year as they prepare for the GLVC Tournament this upcoming weekend.
Jacob Nagel, Bellarmine
Nagel made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. #12 UIS, tossing 1 inning giving up 0 runs off 1 hit while striking out 1. Bellarmine swept UIS and improved to 29-19 overall. Nagel is 1-2 with a 6.27 ERA and looks to make an impact in the GLVC Tournament this weekend.
Anthony Rios, Lewis
Rios collected 3 hits this past weekend with an RBI to help Lewis take 2 of 3 from Truman State and improve to 27-22 overall. Rios hit .305 in the regular season with 15 doubles, 2 homers and 29 RBI's.
Mitch Owens, Augustana
Owens went 8 for 17, hitting .471 with a homer, a double and 3 RBI's to help them finish the regular season 26-13-1 overall. On the year, Owens finished the regular season hitting .343 with 7 doubles, 2 homers and 31 RBI's. Augustana starts the CCIW Tournament this weekend to earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Travis Hank, MIT
Hank got the win vs. Roger Williams in the final regular season game, going 5 innings giving up 0 earned runs off 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 6. MIT then started the NEWMAC Tournament and beat Springfield, then #15 ranked, Wheaton, then WPI to put themselves in the NEWMAC Championship vs. #7 ranked, Babson this week with a chance to get an NCAA Tournament bid. On the year, MIT is 21-16-1 overall and Hank is 2-1 with a 4.29 ERA in his senior campaign.
Elias Kuhns, Union
Kuhns went 6 for 15, hitting .400 with a homer, two doubles and 3 RBI's to help them take all 4 games vs. Skidmore this past weekend and improve to 18-20 overall. Union enters the Liberty League Tournament this upcoming week with an NCAA Tournament bid on the line. Kuhns finished the regular season hitting .330 with 12 doubles, 6 homers, 21 RBI's and a .606 slugging %.
Jake Huber, Augustana
Huber went 7 for 21, hitting .333 this past week with a homer and 3 RBI's. Augustana finished the season 26-13-1 overall and look to try and win an automatic NCAA Tournament bid by winning the CCIW Tournament this upcoming week. Huber finished the regular season, hitting .274 with 5 doubles, 2 homers, and 25 RBI's.
Tommy Duddleston, UW-Stevens Point
Duddleston went 6 for 19, hitting .316 this past week with two doubles and 4 RBI's. UW-Stevens Point lost twice to UW-Stout and four times to #16 ranked, UW-Whitewater to finish the season 14-24 overall. Duddleston finished the year hitting .299 with 6 doubles and 14 RBI's.
Brian Lyle, University of Chicago
Lyle collected 5 hits this past week with an RBI to help them take 3 of 4 from Beloit to improve to 23-9 overall. University of Chicago won the MWC North Division title and will begin MWC tournament play this upcoming weekend with an NCAA Tournament bid on the line. Lyle finished the regular season hitting .396 with 23 RBI's and 18 stolen bases.
Austin Butts, Transylvania
Butts went 1 for 3 with 3 RBI's to earn a split with Bluffton and finish the regular season 16-22 overall. Transylvania begins the HCAC tournament this weekend. Butts finished the regular season hitting .306 with 6 doubles and 21 RBI's.
Matthew Kann, Franklin & Marshall
Kann got his only hit of the Centennial Conference Tournament in there last game vs. Haverford, where he hit a solo bomb. Franklin & Marshall lost to Haverford and finished at 27-15 overall.
Nate Tholl, Webster
Tholl got 2 hits this past weekend to help Webster beat Blackburn twice and split with the #1 team in the nation, Concordia-Chicago. Webster finished the regular season as the #19 ranked team in the nation with a 29-10 overall record. Tholl finished the regular season hitting .333 with 12 doubles, 2 homers, 17 RBI's and 17 stolen bases. Webster begins SLIAC Tournament play this week to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Ben Rosengard, University of Chicago
Rosengard collected 4 hits with a double and an RBI this past weekend to help U of Chicago take 3 of 4 from Beloit and finish the season at 23-9 overall. Rosengard finished the regular season with a .302 average with 5 doubles and 16 RBI's as a freshman.
Nick Villasenor, Blackhawk CC
Villasenor was dominate on the mound this past weekend, earning a win vs. Elgin CC. Villasenor went 7 innings giving up 0 earned runs off only 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 9. Blackhawk CC is 21-17 overall and Villasenor is 4-2 with a 4.38 ERA and has 43 strikeouts in 37 innings of work.
Ashton Creal, John A. Logan CC
Creal went 6 for 10, hitting .600 with 3 RBI's this past week, but John A. Logan got swept by Wabash and fell to 40-10 overall. On the year, Creal is hitting .422 with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 2 homers, 32 RBI's and 32 stolen bases.
Michael Oh, NIACC
Oh got the win in dominate form against Ellsworth CC this past weekend. Oh went 7 innings giving up 0 earned runs off only 5 hits while striking out 5. NIACC swept Ellsworth CC over the weekend and improved to 31-24 overall. Oh is 5-2 with a 2.29 ERA and has 65 strikeouts in 63 innings of work.
Shakur Jackson, Heartland CC
Jackson went 6 for 14, hitting .429 with a homer and 5 RBI's as they beat ICC in all four games this past weekend and improved to 28-16 overall. Jackson is now hitting .269 with 5 doubles, a homer and 11 RBI's on the year.
Sean Hebreard, Blackhawk CC
Hebreard collected 7 hits this past week with 3 doubles and 6 RBI's to help Blackhawk win all four games vs. Saux Valley CC, two vs. Elgin and split with Lake County to improve to 21-17 overall. Hebreard is hitting .270 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, a homer, 19 RBI's and 12 stolen bases.
Levi Ransom, Heartland CC
Ransom went 3 for 10, hitting .300 with 2 RBI's this past weekend. Heartland beat ICC all four games this past weekend to improve to 28-16 overall.
Mike Bieterman, Heartland CC
Bieterman went 2 for 5 in two games this past weekend with a homer and 2 RBI's. Heartland beat ICC in all four games and improved to 28-16 overall. Bieterman is hitting .333 with 6 doubles, a homer and 11 RBI's.
Malcolm Grady, Campbellsville
Grady got the win to clinch Mid-South Conference Championship vs. Cumberland (TN) and send Campbellsville to the NAIA National Tournament. Grady went 7 innings in the Championship game giving up only 1 run off 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Grady also earned a save in the Semi-Final game vs. Cumberlands (KY), the #5 ranked team in the nation, tossing 2 innings giving up 0 runs off 1 hit while striking out 2. Campbellsville is 31-18 overall and Grady finished the regular senior season 2-1 with a save, an ERA of 1.70, has 41 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of work along with holding hitters to .193 batting average.
Ben Zordani, Saint Xavier
Zordani went 4 for 9, hitting .444 with a triple and 3 RBI's this past week. St. Xavier is 2-1 in the CCAC Tournament this past week and play Robert Morris tomorrow in the Semi's.
Mike Farnan, Saint Xavier
Farnan earned All-CCAC second team honors for hitting .394 for the season with 3 homers and 30 RBI's. Farnan collected 6 hits in the CCAC playoffs and St. Xavier takes on Robert Morris tomorrow for a spot in the Championship.
Angel Sandoval, Saint Francis
Sandoval took the loss in the CCAC playoffs to Olivet Nazarene. Sandoval went 8 strong innings giving up only 3 runs off 7 hits while striking out 6. St. Francis finished the year 29-22 overall and Sandoval finished 5-6 with a 3.25 ERA in 74.2 innings of work.
