Here are the highlights from Week #13 in college baseball at the D2/D3, NAIA and JUCO level by our Top Tier Alums and a heads up on who is in the playoffs:
Top Tier Alumni Player of the Week:
Mitch Owens, INF/OF, Augustana (D3)
Owens had a great CCIW tournament this past week, where he went 7 for 17, hitting .412 with a double and 3 RBI's. However it wasn't enough as Augustana's season came to an end as they lost to North Central. Augustana finished the year 35-9 and Owens finished his senior season leading the team in a lot of offensive categories, he hit .343 with 14 doubles, 5 homers, and 38 RBI's.
Best of the Rest in College Baseball (D2/D3/NAIA/JUCO)
Austin Divello, RHP, Coe (D3)
Divello got to throw twice in the American Rivers Conference Tournament where he went a total of 3.1 innings giving up 0 runs off 7 hits and 0 walks with 2 strikeouts. Coe lost in the Championship game to Luther College and finished the year 36-7 overall. Divello finished the year 1-0 with a 4 saves in 16 appearances, an had a 1.86 ERA in 29 innings with 17 strikeouts.
Brendan Holloway, OF, Oakton (JUCO)
Holloway went 4 for 8, hitting .500 with a triple, a double and 2 RBI's in the District Division 3 Championship vs. Owens CC. Oakton lost to Owens CC and finished the season 30-19 overall.
Tommy Duddleston, INF, Wisconsin-Stevens Point (D3)
Duddleston went 5 for 15, hitting .333 with a double and 2 RBI's in the WIAC Tournament. UW-Stevens Point lost in the Championship game vs. UW-Whitewater and finished the year 32-11 overall. Duddleston finished his senior campaign hitting .291 with 9 doubles, a triple, 2 homers and 28 RBI's.
Andrew Padilla, RHP, Webster (D3)
Padilla made one relief appearance in the SLIAC Championship vs. Spaulding where he tossed one inning giving up 0 runs off 1 hit and 0 walks. Webster won the SLIAC Championship and earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division 3 Regionals vs. Transylvania after going 35-6 on the year.
Brenden Heiss, RHP, Southeastern (NAIA)
Heiss made one relief appearance in the NAIA Tournament Opening round Regional tossing one inning giving up 2 runs off 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 1. Southeastern beat USCB and Middle Georgia State to move onto the NAIA World Series this week. Southeastern in 50-7 on the year and Heiss is 2-0 with one save in 16 appearances with an ERA of 1.89 in 19 innings with 29 strikeouts.
Nick Baldassano, INF, Aurora (D3)
Baldassano went 2 for 7 with a homer and 3 RBI's in The NACC Tournament this past week. Aurora won the NACC Championship and earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division 3 Super Regionals vs. St. Mary's. Aurora is 37-6 on the year and Baldassano is hitting .264 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, a homer and 18 RBI's.
Conner Tomasic, INF/RHP, South Suburban (JUCO)
Tomasic got his 1st loss of the year on the mound in the JUCO Tournament vs. Wabash Valley. He went 1 for 5 at the plate with a homer and 2 RBI's. South Suburban lost to Wabash Valley and Kaskaskia to finish the year 41-19. Tomasic finished the year 6-1 with a 4.64 ERA in 64 innings pitched with 81 strikeouts, at the plate he hit .392 on the year with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 8 homers and 49 RBI's.
Johnny Hernandez, C, Blackhawk (JUCO)
Hernandez collected 2 hits and an RBI int eh Region IV Division 2 JUCO Tournament and lost to Madison to finish the year 44-13 overall.
Teams that made the Tournament but didn't play last week that have some Top Tier Alums on their roster:
Quincy got selected as an at large bid into the NCAA Division 2 Midwest Regional after going 28-13 on the season. They will take on Trevecca Nazarene in the 1st round game this week. Our alums that will be represented by the Hawks in the tournament are Brett Taucher, Luke Napleton and Brennan Fisher.
Lindenwood won the the GLVC Tournament and earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division 2 Midwest Regional with a record of 33-7 and will take on Davenport in the 1st round this week. Our alum that will be represented by the Lions in the tournament is Jack Lochner.
University of Illinois Springfield earned an at large bid into the NCAA Division 2 Midwest Regional tournament and will take on Northwood in the 1st round this week after finishing the year 37-6. Our alum that will be represented by the Stars in the tournament is Tyler Acosta.
Wash U made the NCAA Division 3 Tournament after going 28-3 overall and will take on Illinois College in the Midwest Super Regionals this week. Our alum that will be represented by the Bears in the tournament is Broghan O'Connor.
