Major League Baseball Top Performances in Week #6:

Rob Scahill (Class of 2005), Milwaukee Brewers

Scahill had a great week in his two relief appearances. He picked up the win in relief vs. Boston going 2.1 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits with 2 walks. Scahill also got another 2 innings of relief work vs. New York Mets giving up 0 runs on 0 hits with one walk. He has held teams scoreless in his last two outing as the Brewers have climbed up to 2nd place in the NL Central. Scahill is now pitching at 2.84 ERA on the year.

Tanner Roark (Class of 2005), Washington Nationals
Roark got a No-Decision in his one start this past week vs. Philadelphia. He went 4.2 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks while striking out 5. Washington is still in 1st place in the NL East with a 24-13 overall record.

Minor League Baseball Top Performances in Week #6:

Paul DeJong (Class of 2011), Memphis Redbirds (Triple A, Cardinals)

DeJong had another huge offensive week, going 6 for 21, collecting hits in 4 out of the 5 games he played in, with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s. He is currently hitting .275 on the year with 8 home runs, 23 RBI’s and a .553 slugging %.

Kyle Hunter (Class of 2008), Tacoma Rainiers (Triple A, Mariners)
Hunter got the start vs. Round Rock Express going 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk while striking out 2 in his No-Decision. He currently has a 4.50 ERA on the year.

Tyler Ladendorf (Class of 2006), Charlotte Knights (Triple A, White Sox)
Ladendorf collected 3 hits last week with an RBI and is currently hitting .290 on the year.

Karch Kowalczyk (Class of 2009), Tulsa Drillers (Double A, Dodgers)
Kowalczyk made 2 relief appearances and continues to bolster down the bullpen. He went a total of 2 innings last week giving up 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 1. On the year, he has a 1.56 ERA.

Jeremy Rhoades (Class of 2011), Inland Empire 66ers (High A, Angels)
Rhoades collected his 3rd and 4th save this past week in his 2 relief appearances out of the bullpen. He went 1 inning to get his 3rd save giving up 0 runs on 1 hit. He went 2 innings to get his 4th save giving up 1 run on 1 hit. He has lowered his ERA to 4.86 on the year.

Ryan Borucki (Class of 2012), Dunedin Blue Jays (High A, Blue Jays)
Borucki made one start this past week vs. Daytona getting a No-Decision in his 4 innings pitched. Borucki had a good outing giving up 0 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 5. He has lowered his ERA to a 4.55 on the year.

Mike Martin (Class of 2011), Beloit Snappers (Low A, Athletics)
Martin swung a hot stick going 7 for 18, hitting .389 on the week with 4 doubles. He is now hitting .351 on the year and has been on fire at the plate since returning from the disabled list.

Jason Goldstein (Class of 2012), Beloit Snappers (Low A, Athletics)
Goldstein picked up 3 hits in 3 games this past week with a homerun and 2 RBI’s. He is currently hitting .229 on the year.

Zach Lewis (Class of 2013), Wichita State

Lewis threw a complete-game shutout to get the win going 9 innings giving up 0 runs on 3 hits, 1 walk while striking out 8 against Evansville. The Shockers took 2 of 3 from the Purple Aces over the weekend. Lewis was recognized as Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for his big time performance. Wichita State is now 25-26 overall and 9-9 in the Missouri Valley.

Sean Hjelle (Class of 2015), Kentucky
Hjelle got the win vs. Tennessee going 7 innings giving up only 1 run on 2 hits, 2 walks while striking out 6. Hjelle is now 8-2 with a 3.28 ERA on the year. Kentucky swept Tennessee on the weekend and improved to 36-16 overall, 18-9 in the SEC, along with being ranked #6 Nationally.

Kyle Colletta (Class of 2013), Northern Kentucky
Colletta was huge at the plate this past week vs. Horizon League opponents going 6 for 12, hitting .500 with a double and 4 RBI’s. Northern Kentucky took two from Oakland, and two from Youngstown State on the weekend to improve to 21-30 overall and 14-13 in the Horizon. Colletta is now hitting .288 on the year.

Brad Margolin (Class of 2013), Wash U
Margolin threw another complete-game to get the win vs. University of Chicago giving up 0 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 7. He finished the year 9-0 with 1.70 ERA. They swept all four games from University of Chicago on the weekend and improved to 26-8 overall and are ranked #15 Nationally in D3. They were selected into the D3 National Championships and continue play vs. North Central in the Midwest Regional next weekend.

Zach Wade (Class of 2013), DePauw
Wade collected multiple hits in all four of his NCAC Playoff games, going 8 for 17, hitting .471 with 3 doubles and 6 RBI’s. DePauw lost in the Finals vs. #9 ranked, Wooster, however, DePauw earned an at-large bid to the D3 NCAA Championships and will face Cortland State in the Regionals. Wade was named All-Tournament Team for his offensive outburst in the NCAC Championships. He finished the year hitting .360 with 7 home runs, 38 RBI’s and a .608 Slugging %.

Eric Giltz (Class of 2015), SIUE
Giltz collected a hit in every game this past week, going 7 for 15, hitting a staggering .466 with a double, a homerun and 6 RBI’s. SIUE took 2 of 3 from Eastern Illinois this past weekend and loss to Saint Louis in their mid-week game. SIUE has improved to 23-26 overall and 11-16 in the Ohio Valley.

Austin Blazevic (Class of 2015), Kaskaskia CC
Blazevic went 5 for 9, hitting .556 this past weekend with a double and an RBI. Blazevic finished the year with .310 batting average with 6 home runs and 34 RBI’s. He is committed to play at Southeast Missouri State next year.

Gunnar Haskins (Class of 2015), Blackhawk CC
Haskins went 5 for 7, hitting .571 this past weekend with a double, a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Blackhawk beat Moraine Valley CC twice this past weekend and Haskins finished the year hitting .347 on the year.

Hank Christie (Class of 2016), Northwestern
Christie got the win vs. Maryland this past weekend going 8 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk while striking out 3. The Wildcats took 2 of 3 from Maryland on the weekend and improve to 21-28 overall and 10-11 in the Big Ten, which puts them in the last playoff spot at 8th, with one weekend of Big Ten play to go.

Cooper Johnson (Class of 2016), Mississippi
Johnson continued to swing the bat well as he went 3 for 10 on the weekend vs. #19 ranked Texas A&M with a double and an RBI. Ole Miss took 2 of 3 from Texas A&M on the weekend, as they improved to 31-21 overall and 13-14 in the SEC. On the year, Johnson has thrown out 13 of 18 baserunners who have attempted to steal on him.

Marty Napleton (Class of 2013), St. Joseph’s (IN)
Napleton collected a hit in every GLVC Tournament game this past weekend, going 8 for 18, hitting .444 with two doubles and 7 RBI’s. Napleton is hitting .324 on the year and his team although they lost in the semi-finals of the GLVC, got an At-Large bid into the D2 National Championships and will face #24 ranked Southern Indiana in the Regionals next weekend.  Saint Joseph’s is in their last year of existence as the school will be closing their doors at the conclusion of this season. The Pumas are 34-20 making a push to have a National Championship in their hands to finish out a great year.

Matt Sullivan (Class of 2014), Chicago State
Sullivan collected a hit in every game this past week, however his Cougars loss all 5 games, and three of them to the hands of New Mexico State. He went 7 for 18, hitting .389 with two doubles.

Brian Musielak (Class of 2014), Concordia-Chicago
Musielak picked up two wins in relief this past weekend. His first one came in the semi-final game of the NACC where he went 1.2 innings of relief giving up 0 runs on 0 hits, 1 walk while striking out 2. Then he picked up his most important win in relief vs. Concordia-Wisconsin in the NACC Championship game going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks while striking out 4. Musielak improved to 8-1 on the year with a 2.31 ERA good enough for best on the team and was an all-conference selection. His performance helped the Cougars get the automatic bid into the NCAA D3 Championships with a 29-11 overall record. The Cougars will face Macalester College in the D3 Regionals next weekend.

Ben Browdy (Class of 2013), Wash U
Browdy went 5 for 13, hitting .385 with 2 doubles, a homerun and 5 RBI’s this past weekend vs. University of Chicago. They were selected to be one of the top teams in the NCAA D3 Championships and will square off against North Central in the Regionals next weekend. Browdy finished the year, as the top Wash U hitter, hitting .380 with 16 doubles, 4 home runs, 33 RBI’s and a slugging % of .599.

Neil Lambert (Class of 2015), Triton CC
Lambert went 4 for 11 this past weekend, hitting .364 with two doubles and 2 RBI’s. He hit .380 on the year and has committed to continue playing at Bowling Green next year.

Austin Covers (Class of 2014), Heartland CC
Covers got the win vs. Lincoln CC going 4 innings giving up 0 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk while striking out 2. Covers improved to 4-2 on the year with a 1.85 ERA.

Nick Menken (Class of 2015), Iowa Western CC
Menken went 5 for 13, hitting .385 this past weekend with 3 RBI’s. On the year he hit .317.

Jesse Forestell (Class of 2015), Western Michigan
Forestell went 6 for 18, hitting .333 this past week with a double and 5 RBI’s. However, this solid offensive performance didn’t help the Broncos as they lost to Oakland and Michigan State in the mid-week games and lost 2 of 3 vs. Bowling Green on the weekend. The Broncos are now 20-26 overall and 9-12 in the MAC.

Connor Riley (Class of 2013), USC-Aiken
Riley go the win over the weekend vs. Lander in the PBC conference tournament going 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, 5 walks while striking out 9. USC-Aiken is ranked #13 in the nation at 39-13, qualified into the NCAA D2 Championships as an At-Large bid and will take on Georgia College in the Regionals next weekend. Riley finished the year with a 6-2 record, 3.74 ERA and in 77 innings he struck out 124 batters.

Kevin Coppin (Class of 2014), Concordia-Chicago
Coppin went 4 for 12, hitting .333 in the NACC conference tournament with a homerun and 2 RBI’s to help Concordia-Chicago win the NACC Tournament. He finished the year hitting .318.

Jake Huber (Class of 2016), Augustana
Huber collected a hit in every game of the CCIW conference tournament, going 6 for 18, hitting .333. Augustana went 30-14 overall but didn’t make it into the NCAA D3 National Championship field. Huber finished the year hitting .280 as a freshman.

Cal Coughlin (Class of 2016), TCU
Coughlin made two relief appearances this past week vs. Oklahoma. He went a total of 2.1 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 1. TCU lost 2 of 3 vs. Oklahoma on the weekend and are now 36-13 overall and 16-8 in the Big XII.

Brady Huffman (Class of 2016), Illinois State
Huffman went 5 innings in his start this past weekend vs. Southern Illinois giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 4. The Redbirds got swept by Southern Illinois on the weekend.

Travis Upp (Class of 2016), IPFW
Upp went 3 for 9, hitting .333 vs. South Dakota State. However, IPFW lost all three games vs. SDSU this past weekend.

Mike Costanzo (Class of 2014), Austin Peay
Costanzo made three relief appearances this past week. In his 1st appearance vs. Evansville in the mid-week he picked up the win going 2 innings giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits, 1 walk while striking out 3. In his second outing vs. Lipscomb in the mid-week he went 0.2 innings giving up 1 run on 0 hits, 1 walk while striking out 1. In his last outing in relief on the weekend vs. Notre Dame, he went 2.2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2. Austin Peay Lost 2 of 3 to Notre Dame on the weekend and are now 23-27 overall and 11-15 in the Ohio Valley. 

Mike Sheryek (Class of 2015), SIUE
Sheryek got 1 inning of relief work in this past weekend giving up 0 runs on 0 hits, 1 walk while striking out 2 vs. Eastern Illinois

Dalton Parker (Class of 2016), Purdue
Parker made two relief appearances this past weekend. The first came vs. Butler in a mid-week game where he went 1 inning giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 2. In his second outing on the weekend vs. # 18 ranked, Michigan he went 4.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks while striking out 6. Purdue got swept all three games vs. Michigan over the weekend.

Mitch Vogrin (Class of 2014), Illinois State
Vogrin went 1.2 innings of relief vs. Southern Illinois on the weekend giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and 1 walk.

Tyler Lass (Class of 2015), Northwestern
Lass went 1 inning of relief work vs. Maryland this past weekend to help preserve the victory giving up 0 runs on 1 hit.

Ryan Hodgett (Class of 2016), Bradley
Hodgett went 1 inning of relief vs. Dallas Baptist this past weekend giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 1. Bradley lost all three games vs. Dallas Baptist and dropped to 19-28 overall.

Zak Devermann (Class of 2015), Illinois
Devermann went 1.1 innings of relief vs. Rutgers giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and 1 walk. Illinois lost 2 of 3 vs. Rutgers on the weekend and are now 22-26 overall and 8-13 in the Big Ten.

Luke Johnson (Class of 2014), Bucknell
Johnson got two hits and two RBI’s in his two semi-finals games of the Patriot League vs. Navy. Bucknell beat Navy twice to move onto the Patriot League Championship vs. Holy Cross next weekend. Bucknell is 21-26 overall and Johnson is hitting .278 for the year.

Frankie Perrone (Class of 2014), Eastern Illinois
Perrone collected a hit in every game this past week, going 5 for 17 with a homerun, a double and 6 RBI’s. Eastern Illinois beat Chicago State in the mid-week game and lost 2 of 3 vs. SIUE on the weekend.

Justin Kelly (Class of 2015), Wayne State
Kelly went 3 for 9, hitting .333 with a homerun, a double and 3 RBI’s in the GLIAC conference tournament games he played in. Wayne State finished the year 31-19, good enough for them to get an At-Large bid into the NCAA D2 National Championships. They will play Quincy in the Midwest Regional. Kelly finished the regular season with 9 homeruns.

Brett Newberg (Class of 2015), Austin Peay
Newberg collected 2 hits over the weekend with a homerun, a double and 3 RBI’s, along with throwing 1.1 innings of relief giving up 1 run on 3 hits.

Kolton Rominski (Class of 2016), Hillsdale
Rominski went 6 innings in his last start of the season giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits, 1 walk while striking out 4. Hillsdale finished the year 25-26, while Rominski as a freshman finished 3-4 on the bump with a 6.08 ERA.

Danny Mayer (Class of 2013), Pacific
Mayer collected 3 hits over the weekend hitting another homerun, a double and another RBI. Pacific lost 2 of 3 to Santa Clara but Mayer has 11 home runs and slugging % of .464.

Trey Schramm (Class of 2015), Xavier
Schramm got 1 inning of relief work in this past weekend vs. St. John’s giving up 0 runs on 1 hit. Xavier lost all three to St. John’s and slip to 25-25 overall and 7-6 in the Big East.
