Major League Baseball Top Performances in Week #8:

Paul DeJong (Class of 2011), St. Louis Cardinals

DeJong just got pulled up the big league squad from Triple A, after Kolton Wong got put on the disabled list. DeJong was hitting .294 with 9 doubles, 11 home runs, and 31 RBI’s in 46 games in Triple A. In his big league debut vs. Colorado Rockies he got a pinch hit homerun in his 1st at bat. In his second game vs. Los Angeles Dodgers he started at second base and went 2 for 4 with a single, a double. DeJong has an unbelievable start to his MLB opening weekend debut at the age of 24.

Tanner Roark (Class of 2005), Washington Nationals
Roark got back on track this past week, picking up two big wins. He went 7 innings vs. Seattle Mariners giving up 1 run on 8 hits while striking out 8. In his 2nd outing he went 7 innings vs. San Francisco Giants giving up 0 runs 6 hits, 1walk while striking out 6. Roark is now 5-2 on the year with a 3.86 ERA. The Nationals are still in 1st place in the NL East.

Rob Scahill (Class of 2005)
, Milwaukee Brewers
Scahill made 3 relief appearances this past week. In his 1st outing he went 1.2 innings vs. Toronto Blue Jays giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk. In his 2nd outing he went 1 inning vs. Arizona Diamondbacks giving up 0 runs on 0 hits with 1 strikeout. In his 3rd outing he went 0.1 innings vs. New York Mets giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and 1 walk. Scahill has got his era down to 2.70 on the year. The Brewers are still in 1st place in the NL Central.

Minor League Baseball Top Performances in Week #8:

Kyle Hunter (Class of 2008), Tacoma Rainiers (Triple A, Mariners)

Hunter made three relief appearances this past week. In his 1st outing he went 1.1 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 2. In his 2nd outing he picked up the win tossing 3.1 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits, 1 walk while striking out 6. In his 3rd outing he picked up another win going 2.1 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits, 1 walk while striking out 2. Hunter is now 3-0 in Triple A with a 3.00 ERA.

Ryan Borucki (Class of 2012), Dunedin Blue Jays (High A, Blue Jays)
Borucki picked up two wins in his two starts this past week. In his 1st outing he went 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5. In his 2nd outing he went 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks while striking out 10. Borucki has improved his ERA to 3.86 on the year.

Mike Martin (Class of 2011), Beloit Snappers (Low A, Athletics)
Martin had a hit in every game he played in this past week, collecting 3 doubles and 2 RBI’s. He is currently hitting .256 on the year.

Karch Kowalczyk (Class of 2009), Tulsa Drillers (Double A, Dodgers)
Kowalczyk took the loss in relief this past week going 2.2 innings giving up 0 earned runs on 2 hits and 1 walk. He is currently 1-1 on the year with a 3.47 ERA.

Jeremy Rhoades (Class of 2011), Inland Empire 66ers (High A, Angels)
Rhoades made two relief appearances this past week. In his 1st outing he had his worst outing going 1.1 innings giving up 9 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk while striking out 4. In his 2nd outing he went 2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 1. He currently has a 9.12 ERA in High A.

Tyler Ladendorf (Class of 2006), Charlotte Knights (Triple A, White Sox)
Ladendorf went 1 for 9 this past week and is currently hitting .229 on the year in Triple A.

Adam Walton (Class of 2012), Kane County Cougars (Low A, Diamondbacks)
Walton after being called up last week, collected 1 hit and is currently hitting .120 on the year in Low A.

Jason Goldstein (Class of 2012), Beloit Snappers (Low A, Athletics)
Goldstein collected 3 hits this past week and is currently hitting .215 on the year in Low A.

Week #15 Top Tier Alumni Roundup: Top Performances in College Baseball

Brady Huffman (Class of 2016), Illinois State

Huffman got the win on the opening day of the Missouri Valley Conference by beating Missouri State going 6.2 innings giving up 0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 6. Illinois State made it all the way to the MVC Championship game only to lose to Dallas Baptist. They finished the year 16-40 overall but with their late playoff push, Huffman earned All-Tournament team honors. He finished with a 4.20 ERA on the year as a freshman.

Trey Schramm (Class of 2015), Xavier
Schramm helped Xavier win the Big East Championships for the 2nd year in a row. He made two appearances this past weekend in relief to help preserve two wins by saving both games he was entered in. In his 1st outing vs. Creighton he went 2.2 innings to get the save giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 1. In his second outing in the finals vs. St. John’s he went 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 3. Schramm finished the year with 4.06 ERA with 3 saves in 37.2 innings while striking out 38. Xavier is now 32-25 overall and are headed to the Louisville Regional where they will play Oklahoma in the NCAA First round. Louisville and Radford are also in their Regional this upcoming weekend.

Jack Landwehr (Class of 2012)
, Illinois State
Landwehr got the save in his 1st outing in the MVC tournament going 2.1 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits, 1 walk while striking out 3. In his 2nd outing he got the start in the semi-finals of the MVC tournament getting the win going 4 innings giving up 0 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks while striking out 2. Landwehr finished the year with a 5.12 ERA.

Jesse Forestell (Class of 2015), Western Michigan
Forestell had a hit in every game in the MAC tournament going 4 for 10 with a double and an RBI. Forestell finished the season hitting .276 with 11 doubles and Western Michigan finished 24-29 overall.

Zach Lewis (Class of 2013), Wichita State
Lewis threw a great game in the opening round of the MVC tournament going 6.2 innings vs. Southern Illinois giving up only 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 8. The Shockers won that game but then went on to lose to Illinois State and Missouri State and got bounced from the tournament. The Shockers finished the year 28-30 overall and Lewis finished with a 3.08 ERA.

Ben Dickey (Class of 2015), Northwestern
Dickey had a really good Big Ten Tournament this past week, collecting a hit in every game going 6 for 18 with 5 RBI’s. He helped the Wildcats make it to the Big Ten Championship game vs. Iowa in which their great run ended with them as runner-ups. The Wildcats finished 27-30 on the year and Dickey finished with .237 batting average.

Hank Christie (Class of 2016), Northwestern
Christie got a start in the Big Ten tournament going 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk while striking out 4. Christie finished with a 4.01 ERA on the year as a freshman.

Cal Coughlin (Class of 2016), TCU
Coughlin got 1 inning of relief in the Big XII tournament giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 1. TCU finished the year 42-16 and are the #6 national seed in the NCAA tournament. They will host the Regionals in Fort Worth, with Central Connecticut State, Dallas Baptist and Virginia in their Regional. Coughlin has 1.89 ERA on the year as a freshman out of the bullpen.

Tyler Lass (Class of 2015), Northwestern
Lass made one relief appearance in the Big Ten tournament going 2.2 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits and 1 walk. Lass finished the year with a 3.92 ERA out of the bullpen.

Cooper Johnson (Class of 2016), Mississippi
Johnson went 1 for 3 with a double in their first round playoff game vs. #20 Auburn in the SEC tournament and got bumped from tournament after that opening day loss. Ole Miss finished the year 32-25 overall and did not get an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. Johnson finished the year hitting .213 and threw out 15 of 19 stolen base attempts as a freshman.

Mike Sebby (Class of 2016), Illinois State
Sebby made two relief appearances in the MVC tournament going 1.2 innings total giving up 1 run on 1 hit, 2 walks while striking out 1. Sebby finished the year with a 5.06 ERA as a freshman out of the bullpen.

Mike Costanzo (Class of 2014), Austin Peay
Costanzo made one relief appearance in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament going 4.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk while striking out 7. Austin Peay got bounced from the tournament and finished 28-30 overall. Costanzo went 2-3 on the year with a 6.10 ERA in 48.2 innings with 44 strikeouts.

Kyle Colletta (Class of 2013), Northern Kentucky
Colletta went 3 for 11 on the weekend at the Horizon League tournament. They beat UW-Milwaukee and lost to Wright State and Oakland to get bounced from the tournament. Northern Kentucky finished 25-33 overall and Colletta finished the year hitting .278 with 7 doubles and 23 RBI’s.

Brett Shimanovsky (Class of 2013), Saint Louis
Shimanovsky made two relief appearances in the Atlantic 10 tournament going a total of 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, 5 walks while striking out 7. Saint Louis ended the season with a 35-22 overall record. Shimanovsky finished the year with 2.63 ERA.

Kevin Coppin (Class of 2014), Concordia-Chicago
Coppin went 1 for 9 in the D3 College World Series as they beat Oswego State and lost to Washington & Jefferson and Roanoke to get bounced from the tournament. Concordia-Chicago finished 34-13 on the year, and Coppin finished hitting .296 with 4 home runs and 19 RBI’s.

Mitch Vogrin (Class of 2014), Illinois State
Vogrin went 1.1 innings of relief in the MVC tournament giving up 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks. Vogrin finished the year with a 5.66 ERA.

Brian Musielak (Class of 2014), Concordia-Chicago
Musielak got the start and took the loss in his one start in the D3 College World Series going 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, 1 walk while striking out 5. Musielak finished with a record of 9-2 with a 2.48 ERA along with recording 4 saves on the year.

Dalton Parker (Class of 2016), Purdue
Parker took the loss that eliminated Purdue from the Big Ten tournament when he came in vs. Maryland. He went 1.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 0 hits, 2 walks while striking out 4. Purdue finished 29-27 overall for the year and Parker finished with a 2-3 record, a 4.60 ERA and 6 saves in 43 innings. He also recorded 43 strikeouts in those innings out of the bullpen as a freshman.

Brett Newberg (Class of 2015), Austin Peay
Newberg made one relief appearance in the OVC tournament going 0.2 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 1. Newberg finished the year with a 3-1 record, with 1 save and a 6.55 ERA. He threw 44 innings out of the bullpen with 41 strikeouts on the year. He also also hit .213 on the year with 5 home runs.

Sean Hjelle (Class of 2015), Kentucky
Hjelle had his roughest outing of the year vs. LSU in the SEC tournament going 5 innings giving up 10 runs on 11 hits while striking out 10. Kentucky finished the year with a 39-20 record and will host a NCAA Regional this upcoming weekend with Ohio University, NC State and Indiana. Hjelle currently has a 4.50 ERA on the year and is looking to help the Wildcats make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
