MLB Roundup:

Tanner Roark, Washington Nationals

Roark got three huge wins in three starts these past few weeks after the All-Star break. It was definitely much needed rest as Roark seems to be back on track. Rorak beat Milwaukee going 8 innings giving up 0 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 11. Then, Roark went on to beat the Mets going 7 innings giving up only 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 7. Then to cap it off, Roark went 7 innings vs. the Reds giving up only 1 run on 7 hits while striking out 2. Roark is now 6-12 on the year with a 4.21 ERA and the Nationals are now 57-54 in the NL East race.

Ryan Borucki, Toronto Blue Jays

Borucki made 3 starts in the past two weeks after the All-Star break. Borucki took the loss vs. Minnesota going 6 innings giving up 0 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 2. Borucki took a no-decision in his 2nd start in his hometown vs. the Chicago White Sox, but pitched well going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hit and 1 walk while striking out 5. Then on his 3rd start after the All-Star break it happened… Borucki got his 1st career Big League Win helping his Blue Jays beat Seattle. Borucki went 8 innings in the win giving up 0 earned runs on only 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Borucki is now 1-2 in 7 starts for Toronto with a 2.30 ERA. The Blue Jays who play in one of the toughest divisions in baseball are currently 51-60 on the year in the AL East.

Paul DeJong, St. Louis Cardinals

DeJong went 12 for 65 these past few weeks after the All-Star break, with three doubles, a triple a homerun and 8 RBI’s. On the year, DeJong is hitting .239 with 9 homers and 27 RBI’s. The Cardinals are still in the run for a playoff spot as they are sitting at 3rd place in the NL Central with a record of 58-54.

MiLB Roundup:

Rob Scahill, Charlotte Knights (Affiliate of Chicago White Sox) Triple A

Scahill made 5 relief appearances going a total of 6 innings these past two weeks. Scahill gave up only 1 run in those 6 innings of work on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8. Scahill has lowered his ERA to 3.86 and he has 58 strikeouts in 49 innings of work this year.

Jeremy Rhoades, Salt Lake Bees (Affiliate of Los Angeles Angels) Triple A

Rhoades made 8 relief appearances these past two weeks, collecting 3 saves in 10.2 innings of work. Rhoades pitched brilliantly these past few weeks giving up 0 runs in his 10.2 innings of work off of 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 13. Rhoades has a 3.60 ERA in Triple A with 38 strikeouts in 40 innings of work.

Tyler Ladendorf, Jackson Generals (Affiliate of Arizona Diamondbacks) Double A

Ladendorf got put back on the Disabled-List and has been back on it since July 20th.

Karch Kowalczyk, Tulsa Drillers (Affiliate of Los Angeles Dodgers) Double A

Kowalczyk got put on the Disabled-List on July 14th and has been on it since then.

Jason Goldstein, Midland RockHounds (Affiliate to Oakland Athletics) Double A

Goldstein got his 3 hits in the past few weeks since being pulled up to Double A.

Blake Hickman, Winston-Salem Dash (Affiliate to Chicago White Sox) High A

Hickman went back on the relief role after being a starter didn’t work out so well. Hickman made 3 relief appearances in the past few weeks going a total of 4.2 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Hickman is 2-3 on the year with 7.57 ERA.

Adam Walton, Visalia Rawhide (Affiliate to Arizona Diamondbacks) High A

Walton swung the bat very well these past few weeks going 10 for 38 with a homer, 2 doubles and 5 RBI’s. On the year, Walton has improved to a .270 batting average with 12 doubles, 3 homers, and 29 RBI’s.

Ryan Koziol, Augusta GreenJackets (Affiliate to San Francisco Giants) Low A

Koziol has been on the Disabled-List since July 3rd.

Zach Lewis, Kannapolis Intimidators (Affiliate to Chicago White Sox) Low A

Lewis made 3 starts in the past few weeks, getting two no-decisions and a loss in his efforts. Lewis went a total of 16 innings in his 3 starts pitching really well giving up only 2 runs on 7 hits and 6 walks while striking out 17. Lewis on the year is 2-4 with a 3.13 ERA and has 70 strikeouts in 74.2 innings of work.

Will Kincanon, Kannapolis Intimidators (Affiliate to Chicago White Sox) Low A

Kincanon made 5 relief appearances this past few weeks going a total of 6.2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9. Kincanon is now 2-1 on the year with a 3.22 ERA, has 4 saves and 23 strikeouts in 22.1 innings of work.

Danny Mayer, Williamsport Crosscutters (Affiliate to Philadelphia Phillies) Low A Shortseason

Mayer went 7 for 30 these past few weeks with 2 homeruns, 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s. Mayer is hitting .274 with Williamsport with 9 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers and 13 RBI’s.

Sean Hjelle, Salem-Keizek Volcanoes (Affiliate to San Francisco Giants) Low A Shortseason

Hjelle made 3 relief appearances these past few weeks going a total of 5.2 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7. Hjelle has a 3.09 ERA on the year and 11 strikeouts in 11.2 innings of work.

Michael Costanzo, Princeton Rays (Affiliate to Tampa Bay Rays) Low A Rookie League

Costanzo made 5 relief appearances in the past few weeks picking up both a win and a save in his efforts. Costanzo went a total of 7 innings in 5 appearances giving up only 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 11.. Costanzo continues to impress as he has a 2-1 record with 4 saves, an ERA of 1.37 and has 29 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work.

Marshawn Taylor, AZL D-Backs (Affiliate to Arizona Diamondbacks) Low A Rookie League

Taylor got back on track these past few weeks, going 7 for 21 and getting is batting average up to .222 on the year with a triple, 6 RBI’s and 4 stolen bases.

Ryan Dunne, Billings Mustangs (Affiliate to Cincinnati Reds) Low A Rookie League

Dunne made 5 relief appearances in the past few weeks collecting a save in one of them. Dunne went a total of 6.2 innings in his 5 appearances giving up only 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 8. Dunne is 1-0, a save and a 2.84 ERA on the year. He also has 12 strikeouts in 12.2 innings of work.

Independent Baseball

Joe Benson, Chicago Dogs (Independent League) American Association
Benson went on a tear these past few weeks going 20 for 55 with 5 doubles, 4 homers and 14 RBI’s. Benson is now hitting .279 on the year with 7 homers, 12 doubles and 28 RBI’s.

Kylin Turnbull, Chicago Dogs (Independent League) American Association
Turnbull made 3 starts in the past few weeks. Turnbull collected no-decisions in his 1st two outings going 10.2 innings in total giving up 7 runs on 13 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. However, in his last outing, Turnbull picked up the win, pitching a gem going 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Turnbull on the year is 4-4 with a 4.73 ERA.

Mitch Glasser, Sioux Falls Canaries (Independent League) American Association
Glasser had a very good couple of weeks as well at the plate going 17 for 56 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s. Glasser is now hitting .308 for his new squad since getting traded earlier in the year.

Mitch Schulewitz, Schaumburg Boomers (Independent League) Frontier League
Schulewitz made 7 relief appearances in the past few weeks going a total of 6.1 innings giving up only 1 run on 2 hits and 6 walks while striking out 8. Schulewitz is now 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA and has 30 strikeouts in 32 innings of work.

Jack Landwehr, Normal Cornbelters (Independent League) Frontier League
Landwehr made 3 starts in the past few weeks. Landwehr only had one bad outing this past week where he went 2.2 innings taking the loss. After that he bounced back, picking up 2 wins in his next two starts going a total of 16 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 14 hits and 4 walks while striking out 11. Landwehr is now 6-3 with a 3.05 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 67.2 innings of work.

Anthony Ray, Pennsylvania Road Warriors (Independent League) Atlantic League
Ray had a great past couple of weeks getting back on track at the plate, going 19 for 51 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Ray raised his batting average to .234 on the year with 11 stolen bases.
