Week #2 in College Baseball
Top Performances of Top Tier Alumni: Matt Burch, Old Dominion was unstoppable.

Matt Burch, Old Dominion

Burch had multiple hits in their doubleheader this past weekend vs. Binghamton. Burch went 5 for 8, hitting .625 with a double, an RBI, 2 walks and 4 stolen bases. Burch is hitting a team leading .500 on the year so far as they move to 3-2 overall after beating Binghamton twice.

Hank Christie, Northwestern 
Christie pitched an absolute gem for the Wildcats this past weekend vs. #20 ranked Duke. Christie unfortunately got a no-decision for his efforts where he went 6 innings in his start giving up only one run off 3 hits while striking out 10. Northwestern lost 2 of 3 over the weekend vs. Duke and slipped to 3-4 overall as a team.

Kellen Sarver, Illinois @Sarver_Kellen
Sarver had a solid weekend at the plate for the Fighting Illini as they swept Florida Atlantic. Sarver went 4 for 9, hitting .444 with 3 RBI’s, a hit by pitch and a walk. The Fighting Illini are off to a tremendous start to the season with a 6-0 overall record. Sarver is 4th in hitting for the Fighting Illini lineup with an average of .353. He is one of six Illinois players hitting over .300 to start the year.

Collin Clayton, Missouri State @WizCollifa
Clayton collected a hit in every game this past weekend in the Tony Gwynn Legacy Tournament in California. Clayton went 4 for 10, hitting .400 with a walk. Missouri State however slipped to 1-6 overall after getting beat by Cal-State Fullerton, San Diego and Fresno State this past weekend.

Cal Coughlin, TCU @Calcogz22TT
Coughlin made his 1st relief appearance this year vs. Abilene Christian in the mid-week game. Coughlin went 1 inning in that game to help the Horned Frogs win giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Coughlin then bounced back to get another relief appearance vs. Grand Canyon on the weekend going another inning giving up 0 runs on 1 hit. TCU won 2 out of 3 vs. Grand Canyon over the weekend and are now 5-2 overall and ranked #16 in the nation.

Zach Frieling, Saint Louis @ZFrieling
Frieling collected a hit in every game this past weekend vs. Loyola Marymount. Frieling went 4 for 12, hitting .333 with an RBI and 2 walks. The Billikens went on to lose 2 of 3 vs. Loyola Marymount and are now 3-4 overall.

Robert Kametas, Creighton
Kametas picked up a save and a win in relief this past weekend on the mound. Kametas picked up a save vs. Texas State tossing one inning giving up 0 runs on 2 hits. Then Kametas turned around and picked up a win in relief vs. McNeese State tossing 1.2 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits. Creighton split with Texas State and beat McNeese State this past weekend and are now 5-1 overall.

Ryan Altenberger, Xavier @RAltenberger
Altenberger went 4 for 11, hitting .364 this past weekend with a double, 2 RBI’s, 3 walks and a stolen base. However, Xavier lost 2 of 3 vs. Samford and slipped to 1-5 overall.

Neil Lambert, Bowling Green @neillambert14
Lambert went 2 for 5 this past weekend before getting hurt by a hit by pitch in Game 2 vs. Richmond on the weekend. Lambert was rolling offensively with a double and a stolen base before getting hit. Bowling Green lost both games to Richmond over the weekend and are now 1-4 overall.

Jack Carberry, Western Illinois @jackcarberry12
Carberry picked up his 1st win in relief this year vs. Southeast Missouri State. In the finale, Carberry threw 5 innings of relief giving up only one run off 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. The Leathernecks took 2 of 3 vs. SEMO improving them to 2-4 overall.

Patrick Martin, UIC 
Martin got a start on the mound vs. Texas A&M. Martin took the loss but pitched well going 5 innings giving up only 1 run off 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. UIC lost 2 of 3 vs the Aggies and are now 1-5 overall.

Brenden Heiss, Florida Gulf Coast @Heiss42
Heiss got a no-decision for his efforts vs. LIU-Brooklyn this past weekend. Heiss went 4 innings in his start giving up only 1 run on 1 hit and 5 walks while striking out 6. Florida Gulf Coast swept all three games vs. LIU-Brooklyn but dropped a mid-week game to Ohio State and are 5-2 overall now.

Austin Blazevic, Southeast Missouri State 
Blazevic went 4 for 13, hitting .308 with a homerun and 4 RBI’s this past weekend. However, it wasn’t enough as SEMO got beat twice Western Illinois over the weekend and are now 5-2 overall.

Ryan Howe, Purdue @r_howe13
Howe collected his 1st collegiate hit this past weekend vs. #14 ranked, Texas. Howe ended up collecting 2 hits over the weekend with a double, 2 RBI’s and a stolen base. Purdue however lost 3 of 4 vs. Texas and are now 1-6 overall.

Jeremy Gaines, Illinois State @Jgaines_
Gaines went 2 for 6, hitting .333 this past weekend with an RBI. ISU lost 2 of 3 vs. Central Arkansas and are now 4-2 overall.

Eric Giltz, SIUE @EricGiltz
Giltz went 2 for 6, hitting .333 with a walk and an RBI this past weekend vs. Louisiana-Monroe. SIUE lost 2 of 3 vs. Louisiana-Monroe and are currently 1-5 overall.

Nick Jones, Memphis 
Jones made his 1st collegiate start as catcher in the mid-week game vs. Murray State. Jones picked up his 1st collegiate hit with a double in that game, going 1 for 3. Memphis lost to Murray State and split with Southern Illinois this past week and are now 2-4 overall.

Andrew Wilhite, Minnesota @wilhit3
Wilhite hit his 1st collegiate homerun this past weekend vs. Dallas Baptist. However, the Gophers lost 2 of 3 vs. DBU and are now 2-5 overall.

Cherokee LeBeau, Oakland @CherokeeLeBeau
LeBeau collected two hits this past weekend vs. Morehead State. However, Oakland lost all four games to Morehead State and are now 0-7 overall on the year.

Camden Nisenson, IPFW @CamdenNisenson
Nisenson got his 1st collegiate hit with a double and an RBI vs. Alabama State this past weekend. IPFW got swept by Alabama State and are now 4-3 overall.

Ryan Hampe, UIC @ryaanhampe
Hampe in the series finale vs. Texas A&M got to start as the designated hitter. Hampe in doing so picked up his 1st collegiate hit vs. the Aggies. UIC went on to lose 2 of 3 vs. the Aggies and fell to 1-5 overall.

Keaton Rice, Bradley @ricekrispy_
Rice went 1 for 5 this past weekend with 2 walks as the Braves split with Middle Tennessee State and beat Austin Peay to improve to 4-2 overall.

Michael Sebby, Illinois State @mike_sebby
Sebby made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Central Arkansas. Sebby tossed one inning giving up 0 runs off 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 1. ISU is now 4-2 overall after losing 2 of 3 vs. Central Arkansas.

Dalton Parker, Purdue @daltontparker
Parker got the start vs. #14 ranked, Texas to start the series. Parker did not have one of his best outings and took the loss, going 3.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 6 walks while striking out 2. This is the second week in a row that the Boilermakers have faced Top 25 ranked opponents. Purdue is now 1-6 overall.

Brett Newberg, Austin Peay @BrettNewb
Newberg unfortunately took the loss in relief vs. Bradley over the weekend. Newberg threw 2 innings in that game giving up 2 runs off 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4. Newberg made one more appearance on the weekend vs. NIU going 0.1 innings with 0 runs off 0 hits. Austin Peay beat NIU twice to improve to 2-4 overall.

Bobby Seymour, Wake Forest @bobbyseymour127
Seymour collected 3 hits this past weekend with 4 RBI’s and 2 walks. The Demon Deacons lost to Liberty and Elon and split with Quinnipiac. Wake Forest is now 3-4 overall and are probably going to fall out of the Top 25.

Cooper Johnson, Ole Miss @coopj325
Johnson picked up a hit and stolen base this past weekend to help the Rebels take 2 of 3 from Tulane and improve to 4-2 overall. Ole Miss is ranked #10 in the nation right now with Johnson being the commander behind the plate.

Jesse Forestell, Western Michigan @jesse_forestell
Forestell collected two hits, an RBI and 3 walks this past weekend to help the Broncos pick up their first win of the season vs. Lipscomb. The Broncos, split with Lipscomb and lost to Belmont and are now 1-5 overall.

Cam Fowler, Omaha-Nebraska 
Fowler made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Seattle. Fowler went one inning giving up 1 run on 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 2. Omaha-Nebraska split with Seattle and are now 3-4 overall.

Conner Tomasic, Purdue @swaggyct5
Tomasic made one relief appearance vs. #14 ranked, Texas going 0.1 innings giving up 0 runs while striking out the only batter he faced in the finale. Purdue lost 3 of 4 vs. Texas and slipped to 1-6 overall.

Cam Redding, Saint Louis @ReddingCam7
Redding got to pinch-hit  a few times and catch a few innings this past weekend, and he made the most of it. Redding went 1 for 2 with 2 walks but it wasn’t enough as Saint Louis lost 2 of 3 vs. Loyola Marymount.

Robby McGaha, USC-Upstate @robbymc24
McGaha hit his 1st collegiate D1 homer this past weekend vs. VCU. USC-Upstate lost twice to VCU and once to Pittsburgh this past weekend and are now 2-4 overall.

Michael Shereyk, SIUE @mshrek17
Shereyk made one relief appearance this past weekend going 0.2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. SIUE lost 2 of 3 vs. Louisiana-Monroe to fall to 1-5 overall on the year.

Justin Kelly, Wayne State 

Kelly went 4 for 13, hitting .308 with a triple and 4 RBI’s this past weekend. Wayne State swept Tiffin this past weekend and improved to 5-0 overall.

Ryan Fish, UIS @the_fish_fillet
Fish went 2 for 3 with a two doubles, an RBI and 3 walks this past weekend vs. Purdue Northwest. UIS beat Purdue Northwest twice this past weekend and improved to 5-0 overall.

Anthony Rios, Lewis @rios_baseball12
Rios collected 2 hits, 3 RBI’s and a walk this past weekend vs. Drury. Lewis lost 3 of 4 vs. Drury and slipped to 4-3 overall.

Jacob Nagel, Bellarmine @jacobnag14
Nagel earned a no-decision for his efforts vs. Union this past weekend. Nagel went 4.1 innings in his start giving up 2 earned runs off 5 hits while striking out 4. Bellarmine beat Urbana and lost 2 of 3 vs. Union this past week to fall to 2-4 overall.

Louis Niemerg, Maryville @LouisNiemerg
Niemerg earned a no-decision vs. Hillsdale this past weekend. Niemerg tossed 4.2 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. Maryville got swept by Hillsdale and fell to 1-7 overall.

Peyton Isaacson, Saint Leo @TheMagnum_PI
Isaacson had his 12-game hitting streak snapped this past weekend. Isaacson collected only one hit this past week but earned 6 walks and 3 RBI’s to help his squad beat Valdosta State and take 2 of 3 from Lynn. Saint Leo improves to 9-5 overall.

Jacob Lotz, Lewis 
Lotz made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Hillsdale going 0.2 innings giving up 0 run on 1 hit. Lewis lost all three vs. Hillsdale on the weekend and are 4-3 overall.

Jake Huber, Augustana @jakehuber5

Huber had a great opening weekend for D3 baseball down in Winterhaven, Florida. Huber went 6 for 18, hitting .333 with homer, 5 RBI’s and 3 walks to help Augustana beat Bates four times and Capital University as well to start the season out 5-0 overall.

Gunnar Haskins, Augustana @GunnarHaskins
Haskins collected 5 hits on opening weekend of D3 baseball down in Winterhaven, Florida. Haskins also collected 3 RBI’s and drew 5 walks on the weekend. Augustana is 5-0 to start the season after beating Bates four times and Capital.

Matt Kann, Franklin & Marshall 
Kann collected a hit in both games on opening weekend with 2 RBI’s as well. Franklin & Marshall beat Hampden-Sydney twice to open the season.

Nate Tholl, Webster
Tholl collected a hit in every game on opening weekend vs. Transylvania, helping the Gorlaks take 2 of 3 on the weekend. Webster is ranked #15 in the nation in D3.

Jared Trivette, Benedictine
Trivette got his 1st collegiate start at the designated hitter vs. Wash U. Trivette picked up his 1st collegiate hit going 1 for 2 with an RBI. Benedictine lost to Wash U and split with Hendrix to start the season off 1-2 overall.

Mitch Owens, Augustana
Owens collected 2 hits, 3 RBI’s and 4 walks on opening weekend of D3 baseball down in Winterhaven, Florida. Augustana is 5-0 to start the season.

Ashton Creal, John A. Logan CC @cg_creal

Creal had a huge weekend at the plate vs. South Suburban College. Creal collected multiple hits in all three games, going 8 for 10, hitting .800 with a triple, 2 RBI’s, 2 walks and 8 stolen bases. Creal was a one-man wrecking crew helping the Vols take all three games vs. South Suburban College and improving them to a perfect 8-0 overall.

Brandon Williams, Polk State CC 
Williams picked up a win in relief this past week vs. Webber International. Williams went 1.1 innings of relief giving up 0 earned runs off 4 hits while striking out 1. Polk State is now 8-9 overall on the year.

Marius Balandis, Iowa Western CC @Baland1s
Balandis picked up a win in his 1st start of the year vs. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M this past weekend. Balandis went 3 innings in his start giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. Iowa Western split with Crowder College and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to start the year off 3-3 overall.

Tyler Acosta, State College of Florida CC @T_Rey_A
Acosta collected two hits this past weekend with 2 RBI’s. State College of Florida split with Chipola CC and beat St. John’s River College and lost to East Georgia College to fall back to 13-6 overall.

Angel Sandoval, Saint Francis

Sandoval got a no-decision for his solid efforts vs. Madonna over the weekend. Sandoval threw 7 solid innings giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Saint Francis lost 2 of 3 vs. Madonna and are now 1-5 overall.

Michael Kruse, Benedictine (KS) @MikeKruse12
Kruse picked up the win on the mound this past weekend vs. St. Ambrose. Kruse threw 5.2 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks while striking out 5. Benedictine swept St. Ambrose over the weekend and improved to 7-1 overall.

Chris Cuppini, Judson @ChrisCuppini
Cuppini got his 1st collegiate relief appearance vs. Point Park University this past weekend. Cuppini went one inning giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 1. Judson went 1-3 on the weekend to start off the year.
