Week #2 in NCAA Division 1 College Baseball: Top Tier Alumni Roundup:
Top Tier alums continue to impress in Week #2 of College baseball at the Division 1 level. We saw multiple freshman have their debuts and take off in their roles and had plenty of veteran players have really impressive weekends. Here are the highlights below from Week #2.
Player of the Week:
Cade Kurland, INF, Florida
Kurland a freshman infielder at 7th ranked Florida continued swinging a hot stick at the plate. Kurland in 4 games this past week went 10 for 17, hitting .588 with 3 homers, a double and 8 RBI's. Florida split with USF in the midweek games and they swept Cincinnati over the weekend to improve to 7-1 overall on the year.

Scott Youngbrandt, RHP, Missouri State
Youngbrandt a savvy veteran pitcher who is a graduate student at Missouri State had a really good weekend in relief for the Bears this past week. Youngbrandt picked up 2 saves in three relief appearances as Missouri State beat Oral Roberts in the midweek game and swept Central Arkansas to improve to 5-2 overall. Youngbrandt in total threw 3.2 innings giving up 0 earned runs off only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 2.
Brendan Summerhill, OF, Arizona
Summerhill a freshman at Arizona made his 1st collegiate debut in RF for the Wildcats this weekend vs. West Virginia. Summerhill collected multiple hits in both games he started going 5 for 9 hitting .556 on the weekend. Arizona however lost 2 of 3 to West Virginia and are now 4-3 overall on the year.
Mason Miller, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast
Miller had one of his best starts at FGCU against UMass-Lowell this past weekend. Miller got a No-Decision in his start but went 5 innings giving up 0 earned runs off 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out a staggering 11 batters. FGCU lost to Indiana State in the midweek game but swept UMass-Lowell over the weekend to improve to 7-1 overall on the year.
Blake Wright, INF, Clemson
Wright after winning having an unbelievable opening weekend for the Tigers, followed up in this week going 6 for 14, hitting .429 with a double and RBI. Wright continues to be the catalyst for Clemson. The Tigers beat Charlotte in the midweek game but got swept at home vs. UCF to fall to 4-3 overall on the year.
Chase Centala, RHP, UCF
Centala picked a win in relief vs. Clemson this past weekend where he tossed 4 innings giving up only 1 run off 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. UCF lost to FAU in the midweek game but swept Clemson over the weekend to improve to 6-1 overall on the year.
Marc DeGusipe, LHP, FAU
DeGusipe picked up a big win in relief for the Owls vs. USF where he went 2 scoreless innings off only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 3. FAU beat UCF in the midweek game and took 2 of 3 vs. USF over the weekend to improve to 6-1 overall on the year.
Hunter Mink, RHP, USF
Mink picked a win in his start vs. FAU this past week tossing 6 innings giving up 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. Mink gave FAU their first loss of the season. USF split with 7th ranked Florida in the midweek games and lost 2 of 3 to FAU over the weekend and are 3-5 overall on the year.
Colin Summerhill, Utility, NIU
Summerhill swung the bat really well this past weekend vs. Penn State and Maine as he went 5 for 12, hitting .417 with two doubles and 4 RBI's for the Huskies. NIU lost twice to Penn State before finishing with a win vs. Maine in the finale. The Huskies are 1-6 overall on the year.
Kyle Radcliffe, OF, Southern
Radcliffe continues to swing a hot back as he went 5 for 12, hitting .417 this past weekend with two doubles, a triple and collecting 3 RBI's. Southern lost #1 ranked LSU in the midweek game and lost to Florida A&M and Alabama State over the weekend. They only beat Alabama A&M over the weekend and are now 4-3 overall on the year.
Cam Minacci, RHP, Wake Forest
Minacci the Demon Deacons hard throwing closer has not had to be used much in the first two weeks of play as they have been destroying their opponents. This week was much of the same for the 4th ranked Demon Deacons as they beat Mount St. Mary's twice, along with Binghampton, Towson, and UNC-Greensboro to improve to 9-0 overall on the year. Minacci threw one inning of relief giving up 0 runs off only 1 hit while striking out 3.
Paul Bergstrom, LHP, Creighton
Bergstrom picked a win in relief in the finale vs. Coastal Carolina this past weekend going 3.1 scoreless innings giving up only 1 hit and 0 walks while striking out 3. Bergstrom made one other relief appearance early in the weekend going 1 inning giving up 1 run off 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Creighton lost 2 of 3 to Coastal Carolina and are 3-3 overall.
Nick Ficarrotta, RHP, Florida
Ficarrotta made two relief appearances this past week for the 7th ranked Gators. In total he threw 5.2 innings giving up 2 runs off 6 hits and 0 walks while striking out 9. Florida split with USF in the midweek games and swept Cincinnati over the weekend to improve to 7-1 overall.
Jacob Rosenkranz, RHP, Valpo
Rosenkranz picked up a win in relief in the finale vs. UT-Martin this past weekend, where he went 3.1 innings giving up only 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Valpo swept UT-Martin and improved to 4-2 overall.
Gavin Doyle, INF, Western Michigan
Doyle had a really good weekend at the plate going 4 for 10, hitting .400 with a homer and 3 RBI's. The Broncos however got swept by Northern Kentucky and fell to 0-6 overall.
Brandon McPherson, RHP, NIU
McPherson threw well in his 2nd start for the Huskies this past weekend going 2 innings giving up 0 runs off only 2 hits and 3 walks while striking 3. Huskies beat Maine but lost to Penn State twice and are 1-6 overall.
Daniel Pacella, OF, ISU
Pacella as freshman has really brought a power surge to the Redbirds offense this year as he collected 5 more hits this past weekend with 2 more homers and 3 RBI's. Illinois State lost to SIUE in the midweek game and took 2 of 3 from Arkansas State over the weekend to improve to 4-3 overall.
Derek Crum, LHP, Wake Forest
Crum got two relief appearances in this past week for the 4th ranked Demon Deacons. Crum threw a total of 2 innings giving up 1 run off 3 hits and 0 walks while striking out 2. Wake Forest remains unbeaten and are 9-0 overall.
Collin Wilma, RHP, SEMO
Wilma went 3 innings in his start this past weekend vs. Abilene Christian giving up 0 runs off 4 hits and 4 walks. SEMO lost Middle Tennessee State in the midweek game and lost 2 of 3 to Abilene Christian to fall to 2-6 overall on the year.
Ray Sass, INF, Brown
Sass went 3 for 10, hitting .300 in their opening weekend with a double. Brown got swept by Georgia State and are 0-4 to start the year.
Noah Edders, RHP, Bradley
Edders threw 2.2 innings of relief vs. Little Rock this past weekend giving up only 1 run off 4 hits and 0 walks with 1 strikeout. Bradley split with Little Rock and are 2-3 overall.
Jackson Kent. LHP, Arizona
Kent made one relief appearance in the finale vs. West Virginia this past weekend tossing one scoreless inning off 0 hits and 0 walks while striking out 1. Arizona lost 2 of 3 to WVU and are 4-3 overall.
Evan Jones, RHP, Western Kentucky
Jones made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Ohio University giving up 0 runs off 0 hits and 2 walks with 1 strikeout. Western Kentucky beat Belmont in the midweek game and took 3 of 4 from Ohio over the weekend to improve to 7-1 overall.
Ryan Thiesse, OF, Fordham
Thiesse went 3 for 8, hitting .375 this past weekend with an RBI as the Rams got swept by Old Dominion to fall to 0-6 overall.
Will Parkinson, LHP, Columbia
Parkinson threw 3 innings of relief vs. 19th ranked Virginia this past weekend where he gave up only 1 earned run off 2 hits and and 1 walk while striking out 1. Columbia got swept by Virginia and are 0-3 to start the year.
Joe Shapiro, LHP, Western Michigan
Shapiro made two relief appearances this past weekend vs. Northern Kentucky throwing a total of 1.2 innings giving up 1 run off 2 hits and 0 walks while striking out 1. Western Michigan got swept by Northern Kentucky and are 0-6 overall.
Danny Doligale, OF, Illinois
Doligale collected 2 hits this past weekend vs. 18th ranked Southern Mississippi, with a triple and 2 RBI's. The Fighting Illini took 2 of 3 from USM and improved to 4-3 overall.
Nick Laxner, RHP, Eastern Illinois
Laxner went 3.1 innings of relief vs. 9th ranked Arkansas this past weekend where he gave up only 2 runs off 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. EIU lost 2 of 3 to Arkansas and are 4-2 overall on the year.
