Week #5: NCAA Division I College Baseball, Top Tier Alumni Roundup
This week saw some new and older Top Tier Alums have huge weeks in Division I College Baseball. Tyler Snep for Iowa made his mark having a career weekend, hitting two bombs vs. Nebraska this past weekend. Jacob Nagel a 5th year pitcher at Bellarmine who just made the jump from Division 2 to Division 1, had a huge weekend on the mound earning two saves giving up 0 runs in over 6 innings of work in both outings. Kevin Davis continued his perfect 0.00 ERA out of the bullpen for USC-Upstate earning yet another save. Jordan Libman continues to swing a hot bat leading the Redbirds in average hitting .343 on the year. Here are the highlights from Week 5 from all of our Top Tier alums:
Division I Player of the Week:
Tyler Snep, C, Iowa
Snep had an unbelievable weekend at the plate for the Hawkeyes this past weekend where he went 3 for 4 in two games, blasting 2 homers and collecting 4 RBI's along with 4 walks. Iowa however lost 2 of 3 to Nebraska and fall to 4-7 overall on the year. Snep on the year is hitting .533 with 2 homers, 2 doubles, has a slugging % of 1.067 and an on base % of .708.
The Best of the Rest for Week #5:
Jacob Nagel, RHP, Bellarmine
Nagel had one of his best weekends of the year earning two saves vs. North Alabama this past weekend. Nagel went a total of 6 scoreless innings in both his saves this past weekend giving up only 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. Bellarmine beat Western Kentucky in the midweek game and swept North Alabama to improve to 7-10 overall in their 1st year in Division 1 baseball.
Jordan Libman, OF, Illinois State
Libman continued to swing a hot stick as he collected hits in every game this past weekend, going 4 for 11, hitting .364 with 3 RBI's. Illinois State got swept by 7th ranked East Carolina this past weekend and fell to 5-12 overall on the year. Libman is leading the Redbirds in batting average hitting .343 on the year with 4 doubles and slugging % of .448.
Kevin Davis, RHP, USC-Upstate
Davis continued his dominance on the mound for the Spartans this past week. Davis earned his 3rd save of the year vs. UNC-Asheville where he threw 1.2 scoreless innings off only 1 hit while striking out 2. Davis also threw another scoreless inning on the weekend vs. High Point. USC-Upstate beat UNC-Asheville and took 2 of 3 from High Point over the weekend to improve to 14-3 overall. Davis has a 0.00 ERA on the year in 6 appearances tossing 8.2 innings and striking out 15 hitters.
Trey Schramm, RHP, Xavier
Schramm earned his 2nd save of the year this past weekend vs. Cincinnati, where he threw two scoreless innings giving up 0 hits and only 1 walk while striking out 3. Xavier went on to win 2 of 3 vs. the Bearcats and improved to 5-8 overall on the year.
Scott Youngbrandt, RHP, Saint Louis
Youngbrandt earned his 2nd win in his start vs. Oral Roberts this past weekend. Youngbrandt picked up right where left off last weekend, throwing another 7 inning gem giving up only 1 run off 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5. Saint Louis went on to take 2 of 3 from Oral Roberts and improved to 6-13 overall on the year. Youngbrandt has a 2.77 ERA in 26 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts on the year.
Brandon McPherson, RHP, Northern Illinois
McPherson had one of his best pitching performances this past weekend for the Huskies vs. MAC foe, Kent State. McPherson earned the win tossing 6 innings giving up only 1 run off 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6. NIU took 3 of 4 from Kent State this past weekend and improved to 4-11 overall on the year.
Andrew Hoffmann, RHP, Illinois
Hoffmann threw well again in his start for the Fighting Illini this past weekend. Hoffmann went 6 innings giving up only 2 earned runs off 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4 vs. the 22nd ranked Michigan Wolverines. Illinois split with both Michigan and Michigan State this past weekend and are now 6-6 overall. Hoffmann has a 1.93 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched on 3 starts with 21 strikeouts to his name.
Austin Blazevic, 1B, SEMO
Blazevic collected a hit in every game this past weekend, going 6 for 16, hitting .375 with a double and an RBI. SEMO took 2 of 3 from Austin Peay this past weekend and improved to 10-8 overall on the year.
Cam Redding, C, Saint Louis
Redding collected a hit in every game this past weekend vs. Oral Roberts, going 4 for 12, hitting .333 with a double and 2 RBI's. Saint Louis took 2 of 3 from Oral Roberts and are now 6-13 overall. Redding is leading the team with a .333 batting average with 6 doubles, 16 RBI's and a .464 slugging %.
Collin Wilma, RHP, SEMO
Wilma made his 1st two relief appearances of the year this past week. Wilma went 1 inning vs. Saint Louis in the midweek game giving up 1 run off 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. Then Wilma threw on the weekend in relief vs. Austin Peay where he went 4 scoreless giving up only 1 hit while striking out 5. SEMO is 10-8 overall on the year.
Mason Miller, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast
Miller earned a win in relief in the series finale to help the Florida Gulf Coast split with Florida A&M. Miller went 7 innings in relief giving up only 1 run off 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7. Florida Gulf Coast is now 12-7 overall on the year.
Konnor Ash, RHP, Missouri
Ash got a win in his 1st appearance this year in relief vs. Kentucky this past weekend. Ash threw one scoreless inning giving up 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Missouri lost 2 of 3 vs. Kentucky and fell to 8-12 overall on the year.
Ryan Hampe, C, Illinois
Hampe went 5 for 17, hitting .294 this past weekend with 3 doubles and an RBI. Illinois split with 22nd ranked Michigan and Michigan State to move to 6-6 overall. Hampe is leading the Fighting Illini in batting average at .340 on the year with a slugging % of .511.
Vincent Massaglia, OF, Southern Illinois
Massaglia went 2 for 7 this past weekend with a double, 3 walks and collected an RBI. SIU is ranked 27th in the nation and swept Marshall over the weekend to improve to 17-1 overall. Massaglia is hitting .339 on the year with 6 homers, 20 RBI's and a slugging % of .729.
Stephen Hill, 3B, Morehead State
Hill went 2 for 7 this past weekend with 3 RBI's. Morehead State won 3 of 4 vs. Nicholls State to improve to 10-10 overall on the year.
Chase Stanke, C, Minnesota
Stanke collected a hit in every game this past weekend going 3 for 11 with an RBI. Minnesota lost 2 of 3 to Northwestern and fall to 3-8 overall on the year.
Tanner Mink, RHP, South Florida
Mink threw 1.2 innings of relief this past week giving up 0 earned runs off 0 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. South Florida lost to Stetson in the midweek game and won 2 of 3 vs. Florida Atlantic over the weekend to move to 9-8 overall on the year.
Jack Mahoney, RHP, South Carolina
Mahoney made one relief appearance vs. #1 ranked Vanderbilt this past weekend, throwing 0.2 innings giving up 0 runs off 0 hits and 1 walk. South Carolina lost 2 of 3 to Vanderbilt to fall to 12-6 overall on the year. Mahoney has a 0.82 ERA in 8 appearances of 11 innings of work with 15 strikeouts.
Tony Livermore, INF/OF, Northwestern
Livermore collected 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI's this past weekend vs. Minnesota. The Wildcats took 2 of 3 from Minnesota to improve to 7-4 overall on the year.
Nick Laxner, RHP, Eastern Illinois
Laxner threw one inning of relief vs. Tennessee Tech this past weekend giving up 0 runs off 1 hit while striking out 3. Eastern Illinois lost 2 of 3 and are now 10-9 overall on the year.
Alex Bryant, RHP, Holy Cross
Bryant made his college debut vs. the 21st ranked Boston College Eagles this past week where he went 0.2 innings giving up 1 run off 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. Bryant got another relief appearance vs. Lafayette over the weekend going 2.1 innings giving up 0 earned runs off 1 hit and 5 walks while striking out 3. Holy Cross got beat Boston College and got swept by Lafayette to start the year 0-4 overall.
Bobby Seymour, 1B, Wake Forest
Seymour collected 3 hits this past weekend vs. Georgia Tech with a double, an RBI and 5 walks. Wake Forest lost 2 of 3 to Georgia Tech and are now 5-8 overall.
Camden Minacci, RHP, Wake Forest
Minacci made two relief appearances this past week. In total he threw 2.2 innings giving up 2 runs off 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. Wake Forest beat Charlotte in the midweek and lost 2 of 3 to #11 ranked Georgia Tech and are now 5-8 overall.
Zach Fricke, RHP, Valpo
Fricke threw one scoreless inning of relief this past weekend giving up 0 hits and 0 walks. Valpo lost 2 of 3 to Western Kentucky and are now 4-9 overall on the year.
Jacob Rosenkranz, RHP, Valpo
Rosenkranz made one relief appearance this past weekend, throwing 1.2 innings giving up 1 run off 3 hits while striking out 2. Valpo lost 2 of 3 to Western Kentucky and are 4-9 overall on the year.
