MLB Roundup:
Paul DeJong, St. Louis Cardinals
DeJong after a hot week last week, cooled off a bit this week. Although Dejong was held hitless in the White Sox games and Cubs series this past week, he doubled his walks on the year, earning 7 walks in 5 games. The Cardinals went on beat the White Sox twice last week and swept the series with the Cubs. Yesterday they lost to the Twins and DeJong got back on track going 3 for 4 with a double. After a great week for the Cardinals they sit on top of the NL Central with a 20-13 overall record. DeJong is now hitting .258 on the year with 7 HR, 14 RBI’s and 13 BB’s.
Tanner Roark, Washington Nationals
Roark made only one start this past week and threw very well only to take the loss vs. the Phillies. Roark went 6.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9. That was the only game the Nationals lost this past week, as they swept the Pirates series, took 2 of 3 from the Phillies and started off with a win in the 1st of the series vs the Padres. The Nationals have now improved to 19-17 overall and are only 1.5 games out of 1st place in the NL East. On the year, Roark is 2-3 with a 3.65 ERA.
MiLB Roundup:
Rob Scahill, Charlotte Knights (Affiliate of Chicago White Sox) Triple A
Scahill made 3 relief appearances this past week. In his 1st two outing of the week he went a total of 1.2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2. In his 3rd outing of the week, he collected his 2nd save of the year going 1 inning giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2. Scahill continues to be a staple out of the bullpen, pitching at a 3.46 ERA on the year with 17 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
Casey Crosby, Rochester Red Wings (Affiliate of Minnesota Twins) Triple A
Crosby made two relief appearances this past week and he continues to marvel. Crosby went a total of 2.2 innings of relief this past week giving up 0 runs on only 2 hits while striking out 3. Crosby on the year still owns a 0.00 ERA.
Ryan Borucki, Buffalo Bisons (Affiliate of Toronto Blue Jays) Triple A
Borucki made two starts this past week. Borucki took a loss to start off the week going 5 innings giving up 6 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. Borucki fared much better in his 2nd start of the week, picking up the win going 7 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Borucki moves to 2-3 on the year with a 4.39 ERA.
Jeremy Rhoades, Mobile BayBears (Affiliate of Los Angeles Angels) Double A
Rhoades was perfect again this past week in his two relief appearances. Rhoades went a total of 4 innings in his two outings giving up 0 runs again on only 1 hit while striking out 3. Rhoades is now 2-0 out of the bullpen for BayBears with a 2.65 ERA.
Karch Kowalczyk, Tulsa Drillers (Affiliate of Los Angeles Dodgers) Double A
Kowalczyk made two relief appearances this past week and struggled in his two outings. Karch went a total of 3 innings giving up 8 runs on 5 hits and 6 walks while striking out 4. Kowalczyk looks to get back on track this upcoming week.
Blake Hickman, Winston-Salem Dash (Affiliate to Chicago White Sox) High A
Hickman made two relief appearances this past week. In the beginning part of the week he was dominate in his 1 inning giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 3. In the end of the week he went another inning giving up 2 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out another 3. On the year, Hickman has a 2.92 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.
Adam Walton, Visalia Rawhide (Affiliate to Arizona Diamondbacks) High A
Walton collected a homerun, 3 walks and 3 RBI’s in four games this past week.
Jason Goldstein, Stockton Ports (Affiliate to Oakland Athletics) High A
Goldstein got activated by the Stockton Ports on May 3rd this past week, but hasn’t got back into game action yet.
Ryan Koziol, Augusta GreenJackets (Affiliate to San Francisco Giants) Low A
Koziol has been activated as of May 5th to the Augusta GreenJackets roster but has not appeared in a game yet.
Danny Mayer, Lakewood BlueClaws (Affiliate to Philadelphia Phillies) Low A
Mayer collected 4 hits this past week in 7 games. One of those hits was another home run along with getting two more walks and an RBI. Mayer is only hitting .200 on the year but has two home runs.
Zach Lewis, Kannapolis Intimidators (Affiliate to Chicago White Sox) Low A
Lewis made two relief appearances this past week. Lewis went a total of 3.2 innings in his two outings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 6. On the year, Lewis has a 2.40 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 15 innings of work.
Independent Baseball
Anthony Ray, Pennsylvania Road Warriors (Independent) Atlantic League
Ray collected a hit in every game but one this past week, going 4 for 13, hitting .308 with two doubles, 2 walks and 4 RBI’s. Ray continues to stay hot for the Road Warriors and be a big impact in there lineup and iis hitting .294 on the year.
