Week #7 Top Tier Alumni Roundup: Top Performances in College Baseball

Brad Margolin, Wash U
Margolin was Athlete of the Week in the UAA conference and National Team of the Week by D3baseball.com this past week after beating the #10 ranked Emory in his start. Margolin threw a complete game shutout giving up only one hit, one walk and striking out 9. Wash U won all 4 games vs. Emory this past week, and Margolin moved to 5-0 on the year and his team is now ranked #18 nationally with a 16-5 overall record. Margolin’s ERA at 2.76 and 10 Strikeouts to walk ratio ranks him on top of the leaderboard as a pitcher in the UAA Conference.

Zack Wade, DePauw
Wade collected a hit in every game this past week in Florida. He went 7 for 12, hitting .583 with a homerun, a triple and a double along with 5 RBI’s. DePauw went 6-1 while on their spring trip in Florida. DePauw is now 16-4 overall on the year.

Sean Hjelle, Kentucky
Hjelle got a win vs. Vanderbilt this past weekend tossing 7 innings giving up only 5 hits, 3 runs while striking out 9 batters. Hjelle helped set the tone for Kentucky helping them take 2 of 3 from Vanderbilt this past weekend and moving Kentucky up in the National Rankings. The Wildcats are now ranked #8 with a 21-8 overall record.

Louis Niemerg, Maryville
Niemerg got Maryville’s only win this past weekend going 7.1 innings on the bump giving up 0 runs on 6 hits, 2 walks while striking out 7. He also collected 4 hits on the weekend as well but his pitching performance was the only way they could manage one win vs. Rockhurst.

Zach Lewis, Wichita State
Lewis pitched really well this past weekend vs. Valpo, although it resulted in a No-Decision, he went 7 innings giving up 0 runs on only 2 hits, 2 walks while striking out 2. The Shockers went on to sweep Valpo on the weekend.

Eric Giltz, SIUE
Giltz had a great offensive week going 5 for 12, hitting .417. Even with this outstanding performance at the plate, it wasn’t enough as the only win they collected was during the week vs. Evansville. They got swept by Belmont over the the weekend.

Kyle Colletta, Northern Kentucky
Colletta collected a hit in every game this past week going 7 for 19, hitting .368 on the week. This offensive outburst helped NKU take 2 of 3 from Youngstown State in the weekend.

Michael Kruse, Benedictine (KS)
Kruse threw a complete game to get the win this past weekend, giving up 1 run on 7 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 2. He also hit a homerun on the weekend as well as they swept Missouri Valley College on the weekend. Benedictine is now 23-14 on the year and 12-4 in the conference.

Neil Lambert, Triton CC
Lambert went 5 for 9 this past week hitting .555 with a triple and 3 RBI’s. Triton won all 3 games they played in this past week.

Chris Myjak, Butler
Myjak threw 1.2 innings of relief in his mid-week contest vs. Ball State giving up 0 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk while striking out 1. Butler went on to beat Ball State, split with Eastern Michigan this past weekend and also beat Chicago State.

Brian Musielak, Concordia-Chicago
Musielak got the win this past weekend vs. Marian going 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks while striking out 1. Musielak continues to be a staple in the Cougars pitching staff.

Brett Newberg, Austin Peay
Newberg got the win this past weekend vs. Southeast Missouri State tossing 4.1 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 4. The Governors only win on the weekend came from Newberg’s performance.

Michael Schalasky, UIndy
Schalasky got another win this past weekend vs. Lewis going 7 innings strong giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks while striking out 5. UIndy is now ranked #12 nationally after they took 3 for 4 from the Flyers this past weekend.

Shane Peisker, John A Logan CC
Peisker went 4 for 13 this past week hitting .308 with 2 RBI’s. The Vols beat Dyersburg State and lost 2 of 3 vs. Lincoln Trail CC.

Cal Coughlin, TCU
Coughlin got 2 appearances in relief this past week for the #3 ranked Horned Frogs. In his mid-week appearance vs. UT-Rio Grande Valley he went 1 inning giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 2. In his second appearance vs. Kansas State on the weekend, he went 1 inning giving  up 0 runs on 1 hit, 1 walk while striking out 2. TCU went on to win all 5 games they played in this past week.

Connor Riley, USC-Aiken
Riley got the win this past weekend vs. Flagler tossing 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks while striking out 8. Aiken won 2 of 3 vs. Flagler this past weekend and improve to 24-10 on the year.

Malcolm Grady, Wabash Valley CC
Grady got the win this past weekend vs. Southwestern Illinois CC going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks while striking out 4.

Sam Cottingham-Beard, Western Illinois
Cottingham-Beard went 1.1 innings of relief to help preserve their only win vs. Oral Roberts this past weekend giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 3.

Mitch Vogrin, Illinois State
Vogrin got a win in relief this past week vs. Saint Louis going 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits, 1 walk while striking out 1. Vogrin is now 3-1 on the year.

Trey Schramm, Xavier
Schramm went 2 innings of relief vs. Fairleigh Dickinson giving up 0 runs on 1 hit, 1 walk while striking out 3. Xavier went on to sweep Fairleigh Dickinson on the weekend.

Danny Mayer, Pacific
Mayer got a hit in every game this past week going 4 for 13 hitting .308. Unfortunately, The Tigers got beat in all 3 games vs. Loyola Marymount this past weekend.

Jacob Nagel, Bellarmine
Nagel got 2 innings of relief in this past weekend giving up 0 runs on 0 hits, 0 walks while striking out 2. Bellarmine swept McKendree on the weekend and improved to 18-10 overall.

Jake Landwehr, Illinois State
Landwehr made two appearances this past week in relief. In the mid-week contest he went 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 2. In his second appearance on the weekend vs. Dallas Baptist he went 2.2 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits. ISU got swept by Dallas Baptist over the weekend.

Justin Kelly, Wayne State
Kelly collected 4 hits on the weekend, two of them were of the long ball variety.  His two home run blasts along with solid defense helped his team get two big wins vs. nationally ranked Saint Joseph’s in the mid-week games and helped them split with Findlay over the weekend.

Willie Bourbon, Northwestern
Bourbon hit a two-run home run this past weekend to help his Wildcats get back on track by beating Air Force 2 out of 3.

Brady Huffman, Illinois State
Huffman got the start vs. Dallas Baptist this past weekend and got a No-Decision after throwing 4 innings giving up only 2 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk while striking out 4.

Peyton Isaacson, Coastal Carolina
Isaacson had two big doubles this past weekend and had 5 RBI’s to help Coastal take all three games from Georgia State this past weekend. They are now 19-10 overall and 7-2 in the the conference.

Jake Huber, Augustana
Huber got his 1st collegiate hit this past weekend in his first DH role. Augustana won 2 of 3 games vs. John Carroll and are now 17-3 on the year and are ranked #15 in the national polls.
