Sean Hjelle, Kentucky
Hjelle threw a gem this past weekend vs. SEC opponent, South Carolina. On Friday night, Hjelle tossed 7 innings to pick up the win giving up 0 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 8. Kentucky took 2 of 3 from South Carolina and beat Louisville in the mid-week game to improve to 22-10 overall and 5-7 in the SEC. Hjelle currently is 5-2 on the year with a 2.86 ERA and talling 50 strikeouts in 50 innings of work.
Bobby Seymour, Wake Forest
Seymour continues to be one of the hottest hitters in the ACC as a true freshman. Seymour collected a hit in every game this past week, going 6 for 17, hitting .353 with a homerun and an RBI. Seymour extended his hitting streak to 11 games helping Wake Forest to a 13-19 overall record with a 6-8 ACC record. Wake split with the #10 team in the nation, Duke this past weekend, with the finale finishing today. Seymour on the year is hitting .327 with 6 doubles, 3 homeruns, 15 RBI’s and a .464 slugging percentage.
Brett Newberg, Austin Peay
Newberg had a solid weekend both on the mound in relief and at the plate vs. Belmont. Newberg went 1.2 innings of relief on Friday night to help preserve the win giving up 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 1. Newberg also went 3 for 4 with 3 homeruns and 3 RBI’s on Friday night. Newberg also collected a save on Saturday vs. Belmont tossing 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits. Austin Peay improved to 18-14 overall.
Marshawn Taylor, Grambling State
Taylor had a huge offensive week, going 9 for 14 hitting .643 with 10 RBI's on the weekend vs. Prairie View A&M. Grambling lost 2 of 3 vs. Prairie View A&M to fall to 16-16 overall. Taylor won SWAC Hitter of the Week for his efforts this past weekend. On the year, Taylor is leading his team hitting .406 with 28 RBI's.
Cal Coughlin, TCU
Coughlin made 3 appearances out of the bullpen this past week. In total he threw 3 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 3. Coughlin picked up the win vs. Oklahoma in relief on Sunday going 2 innings. TCU who is ranked #23 lost 2 of 3 vs. #19 ranked Oklahoma and fell to 15-13 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12.
Matt Burch, Wabash Valley CC
Burch had another great offensive weekend going 6 for 11, hitting .545 with a triple, a double and 3 RBI’s. Wabash Valley swept Lakeland CC over the weekend and improved to 24-5 overall. Burch on the year is hitting .385 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 2 homeruns, 23 RBI’s, a .462 on base % and a .569 slugging %.
Louis Niemerg, Maryville
Niemerg went 5 for 10, hitting .500 this past weekend with a homerun, a double and 3 RBI’s. Niemerg also picked up a win on the mound, throwing a complete game going 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5. Maryville took 3 of 4 vs. Truman State this past weekend to improve to 16-18 overall.
Gunnar Haskins, Augustana
Haskins had a huge offensive weekend going 6 for 11, hitting .545 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI’s. However, Augustana lost 2 of 3 vs. Carthage and fell to 14-7 overall. Haskins on the year is hitting .315 with 8 doubles, 21 RBI’s, a .441 on base % and a .466 slugging %.
Matthew Kann, Franklin & Marshall
Kann went 4 for 10, hitting .400 with 2 RBI’s this past week. Franklin & Marshall split with Gettysburg and lost twice to Haverford to fall to 8-11-1 overall. Kann on the year as a freshman is hitting .389 with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 15 RBI’s, a .458 on base % and a .514 slugging %.
Hank Christie, Northwestern
Christie had a quality start this past weekend vs. Michigan but unfortunately took the loss. Christie went 6 innings giving up only 1 earned run on 6 hits while striking out 3. Christie is now 2-3 on the year as a starter for the Wildcats.
Neil Lambert, Bowling Green
Lambert went 4 for 12 this past weekend vs. Miami (OH), hitting .333 with a triple and 3 RBI’s. Bowling Green lost 2 of 3 vs. Miami (OH) and fell to 9-21 overall and 4-5 in the MAC.
Willie Bourbon, Northwestern
Bourbon went 3 for 10 on the weekend vs. Michigan, hitting .300 with a double. However, the Wildcats got swept over the weekend by the Wolverines and fell to 8-17 overall and 1-8 in the Big Ten.
Kevin Sullivan, Middle Tennessee State
Sullivan went 3 for 10 hitting .300 this past week with a double and 2 RBI’s. MTSU beat Vanderbilt in the mid-week game but got swept by Marshall over the weekend. MTSU is now 17-15 overall and 5-7 in Conference-USA.
Dalton Parker, Purdue
Parker made two appearances in relief this past weekend vs. #10 ranked Indiana. In his two appearances, Parker threw a combined 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. Purdue lost 2 of 3 vs. Indiana this past weekend and are now 15-12 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten.
Brian Schrimmer, Bradley
Schrimmer made two appearances this past week going a total of 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 5. Bradley beat Western Illinois on the mid-week game and won 2 of 3 vs. Indiana State over the weekend to improve to 17-8 overall and 4-2 in the Missouri Valley.
Jack Carberry, Western Illinois
Carberry threw 3 innings in relief in the mid-week game vs. Bradley. Carberry gave up only 1 hit allowing 0 runs while striking out 3. Western Illinois however lost to Bradley and Carberry improved his ERA to 3.52 on the year as a true freshman.
Sam Cottingham-Beard, Western Illinois
Cottingham-Beard made 2 relief appearances this past week. First one came vs. Bradley in the mid-week game where he went 1.1 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. In his 2nd appearance vs. Oral Roberts, he went 2.2 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 3. The Leathernecks took 2 of 3 from Oral Roberts and improved to 6-19 overall and 5-5 in the Summit. Cottingham-Beard has an 3.18 ERA in his relief role this year.
Marius Balandis, Iowa Western CC
Balandis moved to 3-1 on the year, picking up a win vs. Marshalltown CC going 3 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 4. Iowa Western CC won all 6 games it played in this week to improve to 26-5 overall.
Frankie Perrone, Eastern Illinois
Perrone went 3 for 8, hitting .375 this past weekend vs. SEMO. However, the Panthers lost 2 of 3 vs. SEMO and fell to 10-19 overall.
Tommy Duddleston, UW-Stevens Point
Duddleston went 5 for 16, hitting .313 this past weekend vs. UW-Platteville. UW-Stevens Point took all four games vs. UW-Platteville to improve to 12-4 overall.
Steven Skolarz, Montevallo
Skolarz threw 2 innings of relief vs. Mississippi College this past week getting back on track giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. Montevallo beat Mississippi College and split with Valdosta State to improve to 27-12 overall.
Nate Tholl, Webster
Tholl went 4 for 13, hitting .307 this past week helping #25 ranked Webster win three games this past week. Webster beat Wash U in the mid-week and took 2 of 3 from Eureka to improve to 14-7 overall.
Andrew Zapka, Heartland CC
Zapka got a No-Decision on his quality start vs. Lewis & Clark this past week. Zapka went 5 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. Heartland beat Lewis & Clark twice this week and improved to 22-5 overall.
Mark DiLuia, Maryland
DiLuia had a quality start in the mid-week game vs. William & Mary where he earned a No-Decision for his efforts. DiLuia went 6 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. The game was tied when he left but was squandering late, giving Maryland the loss. Maryland loss 2 of 3 on the weekend as well to slip to 15-16 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten.
Wyatt Trautwein, UIC
Trautwein had a good start this past weekend vs. Wright State going 5.2 innings giving up only 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. However, Trautwein took the loss on his outing and UIC lost 2 of 3 vs. Wright State on the weekend to fall to 16-12 overall and 5-6 in the Horizon.
Luke Johnson, Bucknell
Johnson collected 4 hits this past week with a double and 3 RBI’s. Bucknell swept Lafayette on the weekend and improved to 10-20 overall and 7-7 in the Patriot League. Johnson on the year is hitting .330 with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 19 RBI’s, on base % of .408 and a slugging % of .438.
Mike Shereyk, SIUE
Shereyk went 5.2 innings in relief vs. Eastern Kentucky on the weekend giving up 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. However, SIUE got swept on the weekend by EKU and slipped to 7-22 overall and 3-12 in the OVC.
Collin Clayton, John A. Logan CC
Clayton collected 5 hits this past week with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s. John Logan swept Kaskaskia College and beat Frontier CC to improve to 17-12 overall. Clayton on the year is hitting .441 with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 23 RBI’s, a .471 on base % and a .595 slugging %.
Nick Menken, Virginia Tech
Menken collected 4 hits this past weekend vs. Virginia. The Hokies lost 2 of 3 vs. Virginia on the weekend and beat Dayton in the mid-week. Virginia Tech is now 13-17 overall and 6-9 in the ACC.
Eric Giltz, SIUE
Giltz collected 4 hits this past weekend vs. Eastern Kentucky with two doubles and an RBI. However, SIUE got swept by OVC opponent EKU on the weekend.
Ashton Creal, John A. Logan CC
Creal collected 4 hits this past week with 5 RBI’s. John A. Logan CC picked up four wins this past week to improve to 17-12 overall.
Ryan Dunne, Western Illinois
Dunne took the loss vs. Oral Roberts this past weekend to slip to 2-4 on the year. However, Dunne impressed again with his strikeout numbers as he struck out 10 in 5 innings of work while giving up 4 runs on 7 hits. Dunne leads the team with 53 punch outs in 47 innings of work.
Michael Costanzo, Austin Peay
Costanzo moved to 5-1 on the year picking up the win on Friday night vs. Belmont. Costanzo went 7.1 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. The Governors took 2 of 3 from Belmont to improve to 18-14 overall and 9-6 in the OVC.
Michael Bieterman, Heartland CC
Bieterman went 2 fo 3 in his one start this past week vs. Lewis & Clark. Heartland took both games and improved to 22-5 overall.
Joe Santoro, Army
Santoro got 1 inning of relief work in on the finale vs. Lehigh this past weekend. Santoro gave up 0 runs on 0 hits and 0 walks. Army swept Lehigh over the weekend and improved to 16-14 overall and 8-2 in the Patriot League.
