Week #8 in College Baseball
Top Performances of Top Tier Alumni: Cooper Johnson, Ole Miss and Bobby Seymour, Wake Forest had huge offensive weekends, both hitting over .400 against SEC and ACC opponents.
Cooper Johnson, Ole Miss
Johnson helped his #18 ranked Rebels sweep #16 ranked Florida over the weekend. Johnson went 4 for 10, hitting .400 with a homer, a double and 6 RBI's. Ole Miss is now ranked in the Top 10 after that sweep of their SEC opponent and are 23-10 overall and 8-4 in the SEC. Johnson is hitting .295 on the year with 7 doubles, 4 homers and 17 RBI's as their main guy behind the dish.
Bobby Seymour, Wake Forest
Seymour continues to be a Greek God at the plate, as he walloped three more homers this past weekend. Seymour went 7 for 16, hitting .438 with 3 homers, a double and 8 RBI's as the Demon Deacons beat Appalachian State in the mid-week and took 2 of 3 vs. Virginia Tech over the weekend. Wake Forest is now 18-15 overall and 7-8 in the ACC, and Seymour is hitting .366 with 10 doubles, 5 homers and 42 RBI's on the year.
Matt Burch, Old Dominion
Burch collected a hit in every game this past week, going 8 for 19, hitting .421 with 3 RBI's. ODU took 2 of 3 from UAB over the weekend to improve to 18-13 overall and 3-9 in C-USA. On the year, Burch is hitting .291 with 7 doubles, 16 RBI's and 11 stolen bases.
Ryan Hampe, UIC
Hampe hit his 1st collegiate home run this past weekend along with going 6 for 15, hitting .400 with 3 RBI's. UIC beat Northwestern in the mid-week and lost 2 of 3 vs. Youngstown State over the weekend to fall to 12-13 overall and 7-4 in the Horizon. Hampe, as a freshman is leading the team hitting .421 with 5 doubles, a homer and 14 RBI's.
Willie Bourbon, Northwestern
Bourbon had a great week at the plate, going 6 for 17, hitting .352 with 4 doubles and 6 RBI's. Northwestern swept Ohio State over the weekend, moving them to 14-14 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. Bourbon is hitting .253 on the year.
Ben Dickey, Northwestern
Dickey made a couple spot starts this past week going 5 for 8 with an RBI. Northwestern beat Chicago State and lost to UIC in the midweek before sweeping Ohio State over the weekend to improve to 14-14 overall. Dickey is hitting .258 on the year.
Cherokee LeBeau, Oakland
LeBeau collected a hit in all three games he played in this week with a double going 4 for 8, hitting .500. Oakland took 2 of 3 from UW-Milwaukee over the weekend and improved to 7-20 overall and 6-6 in the Horizon.
Dakota Kotowski, Missouri State
Kotowski continues to impress as a freshman for the Bears as he went 6 for 18, hitting .333 this past week with 4 homers and 5 RBI's. Missouri State won 2 of 3 vs. Southern Illinois over the weekend and beat Murray State and SEMO in the midweek to improve to 11-20 and 4-2 in the MVC. Kotowski is hitting .345 as a freshman with 7 homers and a slugging % of .724.
Jordan Libman, Illinois State
Libman looked great at the plate this past week, going 7 for 21, hitting .333 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI's. ISU beat Eastern Illinois and Iowa in the midweek games and took 2 of 3 from Valpo over the weekend to improve to 17-14 overall and 2-1 in the MVC. Libman is hitting .353 on the year with 8 doubles and 21 RBI's.
Brady Miller, Western Michigan
Miller got his 1st collegiate win this past weekend vs. Kent State. Miller went 6 innings giving up only 1 run off 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Miller also got to relief against Michigan State in the midweek, going 2.2 innings giving up 0 earned runs off 3 hits while striking out 3. Western Michigan lost to MSU and lost 2 of 3 to Kent State to fall to 8-20 overall and 1-3 in the MAC. Miller owns a 4.50 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 24 innings of work this year.
Stephen Hill, Morehead State
Hill went 4 for 13, hitting .308 this past week with a home run and 5 RBI's. Morehead State swept SIUE over the weekend and improved to 21-11 overall and 8-4 in the OVC. Hill is hitting .312 on the year with 3 homers and 19 RBI's.
Keaton Rice, Bradley
Rice went 3 for 6 with a double this past week for the Braves as they won all 5 games and improved to 17-10 overall. Rice is hitting .250 on the year.
Jesse Forestell, Western Michigan
Forestell went 4 for 13, hitting .308 this past weekend with 3 RBI's. The Broncos lost 2 of 3 to Kent State over the weekend and are now 8-20 overall.
Brian Schrimmer, Bradley
Schrimmer made two relief appearances this past week. Schrimmer got the win vs. SIUE in relief in the midweek game, tossing 0.2 innings giving up 1 run off 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. Schrimmer threw again later in the week, tossing another inning giving up 0 runs off 0 hits while striking out 1. Bradley won all 5 games and improved to 17-10 overall and Schrimmer owns a 1.38 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
Mitch Vogrin, Illinois State
Vogrin got a win in relief vs. Iowa in the midweek game, tossing 3.1 innings giving up 0 runs off only 1 hit while striking out 1. Vogrin got to come back on the weekend vs. Valpo, tossing another 0.2 innings giving up 1 run off 1 hit and 2 walks. ISU took 2 of 3 from Valpo over the weekend and are 17-14 overall.
Brenden Hiess, Florida Gulf Coast
Heiss picked up a win in relief vs. Lipscomb, tossing 2.2 innings giving up 0 runs off 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Florida Gulf Coast swept Lipscomb over the weekend and improved to 22-9 overall.
Andrew Hoffmann, Oakland
Hoffman picked up his 1st collegiate win vs. UW-Milwaukee this past weekend. Hoffmann went 5 innings giving up 3 runs off 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9. Oakland took 2 of 3 from UW-Milwaukee and are now 7-20 overall and 6-6 in the Horizon. Hoffmann has a 6.42 ERA as a freshman with 31 strikeouts in 33.2 innings of work.
Ryan Howe, Purdue
Howe collected 4 hits this past weekend, hitting his 1st collegiate home run and triple along with getting 2 RBI's. Purdue got swept by Nebraska and fell to 10-20 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten.
Cam Redding, Saint Louis
Redding collected 4 hits this past weekend vs. UMass along with getting 3 RBI's. SLU lost 2 of 3 vs. UMass and fell to 12-18 overall and 2-4 in the A-10. Redding is hitting .338 as a freshman.
Chase Stanke, Minnesota
Stanke made one start this past week and made the most of it, going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Minnesota lost 2 of 3 vs. Michigan over the weekend and fell to 13-16 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten. Stanke is hitting .240 on the year as a freshman.
Bobby Kametas, Creighton
Kametas made one relief appearance this past weekend, tossing 1 inning giving up 0 runs off 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Creighton took 2 of 3 vs. Kansas State this past weekend and improved to 16-7 overall.
Andrew Wilhite, Minnesota
Wilhite made one start this past week going 1 for 5 with a two-run homer. Minnesota lost 2 of 3 to Michigan over the weekend and are 13-16 overall and 6-3 in the Big Ten. Wilhite is hitting .286 as a freshman with 3 doubles, 2 homers and 8 RBI's.
Cal Coughlin, TCU
Coughlin got a win in relief this past week tossing 0.1 innings to beat UT-Arlington, giving up 0 hits and 0 runs with a strikeout. Coughlin made one more relief appearance over the weekend vs. Oklahoma tossing 0.1 innings giving up 1 earned run off 0 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. TCU, who is ranked 23rd in the nation won 2 of 3 vs. Oklahoma over the weekend and are 20-10 overall and 5- 4 in the Big 12.
Jack Carberry, Western Illinois
Carberry picked up a win this past weekend vs. Oral Roberts, tossing 5 innings giving up 4 runs off 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. The Leathernecks swept Oral Roberts over the weekend to improve to 11-18 overall and 5-7 in the Summit. Carberry is 4-1 on the year with a 5.77 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 34.1 innings of work.
Trey Schramm, Xavier
Schramm made one relief appearance this past week, tossing 1 inning giving up 0 runs off 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Xavier swept Georgetown over the weekend to improve to 12-19 overall and 3-0 in the Big East.
Neil Lambert, Bowling Green
Lambert collected 3 hits over the weekend but it wasn't enough as the Falcons lost 2 of 3 vs. Eastern Michigan. Bowling Green is now 11-16 overall and 5-4 in the MAC. Lambert is hitting .341 on the year, which is 2nd on the team.
Jimmy Burnette, Illinois
Burnette made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Maryland, tossing one inning giving up 0 runs off 1 hit. Illinois beat #19 Coastal Carolina twice during the midweek and lost 2 of 3 vs. Maryland over the weekend and are 20-10 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten.
Ryan Altenberger, Xavier
Altenberger collected 3 hits this past weekend with a homer and a double with 4 RBI's. Xavier swept Georgetown over the weekend and are 12-19 overall and 3-0 in the Big East. Altenberger is hitting .269 on the year.
Louis Niemerg, Maryville
Niemerg not only was dominant at the plate this past week but was also dominate on the mound. Niemerg went 5 for 13, hitting .385 with a homer, a triple, a double and 6 RBI's. Niemerg also threw a complete game 7 inning shutout to get the win giving up only 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. Maryville beat McKendree three times and Univ. of Missouri-Saint Louis twice this past week and are now 18-15 overall and 14-6 in the GLVC.
Justin Kelly, Wayne State
Kelly went 5 for 14, hitting .357 with a homer, 3 doubles and 4 RBI's this past week. Wayne State who is ranked 13th in the nation lost 3 of 4 to Purdue Northwest this past week. Kelly is hitting .267 on the year with 8 doubles, 4 homers and 32 RBI's.
Peyton Isaacson, Saint Leo
Isaacson went 4 for 13, hitting .308 this past weekend with a homer and 3 RBI's. Saint Leo lost 2 of 3 vs. #21 ranked, Nova Southeastern. Saint Leo is now 17-17 overall and Isaacson is hitting .321 on the year with 9 doubles, 7 homers and 34 RBI's.
Ryan Fish, UIS
Fish went 5 for 9, hitting .555 this past week with a double and 2 RBI's. UIS split with Lewis and lost 2 of 3 vs. William Jewell College this past weekend to fall to 20-11-1 overall. Fish is hitting .269 on the year with 6 doubles and 12 RBI's.
Anthony Rios, Lewis
Rios collected 5 hits this past week with a double and 2 RBI's to help Lewis split with UIS and take 2 of 3 from Bellarmine to improve to 15-16 overall. Rios is hitting .245 on the year with 7 doubles, a homer and 14 RBI's.
Mitch Owens, Augustana
Owens continues to stay hot at the plate as he went 6 for 12 this past week, hitting .500 with a double and 4 RBI's. Augustana beat IL-Wesyelan twice and Knox this past week to improve to 16-5-1 overall. Owens is hitting .387 on the year with 4 doubles, a homer and 19 RBI's.
Brian Lyle, University of Chicago
Lyle went 6 for 14, hitting .429 with 2 RBI's this past weekend to help U of Chicago take 2 of 3 from Cornell College and improve to 9-4 overall. Lyle is leading the team, hitting .472 on the year.
Andrew Padilla, Webster
Padilla made two relief appearances this past week, throwing a total of 3 innings giving up 0 runs off only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 4. Webster beat MacMurray College twice and lost to Rhodes twice and are now 17-8 overall. Padilla has a 0.00 ERA on the year with 6 strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.
Jake Huber, Augustana
Huber collected a hit in every game this past week, going 4 for 13, hitting .308 with a double and 6 RBI's. Augustana is now 16-5-1 overall and Huber is hitting .267 on the year with 4 doubles, a homer and 20 RBI's.
Matt Kann, Franklin & Marshall
Kann went 3 for 10, hitting .300 this past week with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. However, Franklin & Marshall lost all four games and fell to 15-10 overall.
Travis Hank, MIT
Hank got a start and made a relief appearance this past week. Hank in total threw 7.1 innings giving up 3 runs off 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. MIT swept Emerson, beat Endicott and Clark and only lost to Tufts this past week to improve to 13-7-1 overall.
Ashton Creal, John A. Logan CC
Creal continues to rip the cover off baseballs, week in and week out. Creal went 10 for 23, hitting .435 on the week with 4 doubles and 5 RBI's to help the Vols win all 7 games they played and move them to 30-5 overall on the year. Creal is hitting .427 on the year with 16 stolen bases.
Vincent Massaglia, Illinois Central College
Massaglia went 11 for 26, hitting .423 with a homer, 3 doubles and 9 RBI's. ICC won all 6 games this past week and are now 13-13 overall. Massaglia is hitting .379 on the year with 9 doubles, 6 homers and 32 RBI's.
Michael Oh, NIACC
Oh got a no-decision for his efforts vs. Kirkwood CC this past weekend. Oh threw 8 innings giving up 0 earned runs off 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 10. NIACC is 13-16 overall on the year, and Oh is 3-2 with a 2.25 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 44 innings of work.
Garrett Goetz, Waubonsee Valley CC
Goetz went 10 for 32 this past week, hitting .313 with 3 doubles, a triple and an RBI. Waubonsee is 11-15 overall and Goetz is hitting .333 with 10 doubles, 2 triples and 13 RBI's on the year.
Nick Villasenor, Blackhawk CC
Villasenor got two wins this past week in his two starts. In total, Villasenor tossed 11 innings giving up 7 runs off 11 hits and 3 walks while striking out 13. Blackhawk is 9-5 overall and Villasenor is 2-1 with a 5.63 ERA.
Marius Balandis, Iowa Western CC
Balandis made one relief appearance this past week vs. Southwestern CC, tossing 2 innings giving up 0 runs off 0 hits while striking out 4. Iowa Western won all four games vs. Southwestern CC to improve to 25-4 overall. Balandis is 3-0 with a save and an 3.14 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 14.1 innings of work.
Andrew Zapka, Heartland CC
Zapka threw well this past weekend vs. Spoon River but took the loss, tossing 7 innings giving up only 2 runs off 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 5. Heartland won 3 of 4 vs. Spoon River and improved to 16-9 overall.
Kevin Davis, Olney Central College
Davis got the win this past weekend vs. Southeastern Illinois going 5.2 innings giving up 5 runs off 5 hits and 6 walks while striking out 6. Davis is now 4-1 with a 3.72 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 29 innings. Olney Central is now 21-4 overall.
Michael Kruse, Benedictine (KS)
Kruse earned a win vs. Baker throwing a complete game giving up 2 earned runs off 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8. Benedictine got swept by Central Methodist and lost 2 of 3 vs. Baker this past week to fall to 17-8 overall.
Ben Zordani, Saint Xavier
Zordani went 4 for 10, hitting .400 this past weekend with an RBI. Saint Xavier is now 21-11 overall on the year.
