Week #9: NCAA Division I College Baseball, Top Tier Alumni Roundup
This week saw the former ACC Player of the Year absolutely hammer baseballs into the atmosphere vs. Appalachian State and Duke this past week. Seymour went 5 for 16, with three homers, a double and had 11 RBI's over the week. Jack Mahoney was dominant again for the 11th ranked Gamecocks this past week vs. College of Charleston, where he earned his 2nd win of the year throwing 5 scoreless innings off 1 hit while striking out 7. Illinois saw both Kellen Sarver and Ryan Hampe go off at the plate this past weekend, hitting a combined 11 hits between the two with a combined 10 RBI's. Here are the highlights from Week 9 from all of our Top Tier alums:
Division I Player of the Week:
Bobby Seymour, 1B, Wake Forest
Seymour had an outstanding week offensively for the Demon Deacons this past week going 5 for 16, hitting .313 with unbelievable power numbers, hitting 3 homers, a double and collected 11 RBI's. He was automatic offense for Wake Forest this past week and now has 8 homers, 30 RBI's and a slugging percentage of .518 on the year. Wake Forest beat Appalachian State in the midweek and lost 2 of 3 to Duke on the weekend and are currently 12-17 overall and 6-14 in the ACC
The Best of the Rest for Week #9:
Jack Mahoney, RHP, South Carolina
Mahoney continues to be a dominant starting pitcher in the midweek games for the 11th ranked Gamecocks. This past week, Mahoney got another win to move to 2-0 vs. College of Charleston where he threw 5 scoreless innings off only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 7. South Carolina beat College of Charleston in the midweek game and took 2 of 3 vs. LSU over the weekend to improve to 24-10 overall and 10-5 in the SEC. Mahoney owns a 1.44 ERA, is 2-0 in 12 appearances with 25 innings under his belt with 33 strikeouts.
Kellen Sarver, 1B, Illinois
Sarver had a great weekend offensively going 6 for 12, hitting .500 with a homer, a double and had 3 RBI's to help the Fighting Illini beat Michigan State twice. Illinois is 10-13 overall on the year.
Ryan Hampe, C, Illinois
Hampe had a really good offensive weekend for the Fighting Illini as well as he went 5 for 8, hititng .625 with two doubles and 7 RBI's. Illinois beat Michigan State twice over the weekend and are 10-13 overall on the year.
Alex Bryant, RHP, Holy Cross
Bryant had his best outing of the year vs. Lafayette this past weekend where he picked up a win in relief, tossing 5 scoreless innings off 3 hits and 0 walks while striking out 11. Holy Cross lost 2 of 3 vs. Lafayette this past weekend and are 6-10 overall and 5-7 in the Patriot League. Bryant owns a 2.30 ERA and is 2-1 in 7 appearances with 15.2 innings of work with 26 strikeouts on the year.
Ryan Altenberger, INF, Xavier
Altenberger has been on fire at the plate since coming back from injury as he collected a hit in every game this past week, going 5 for 12, hitting .416 with 3 doubles, a triple and collected 4 RBI's. Xavier won 3 of 4 vs. Butler this past weekend to improve to 14-15 overall and 5-2 in the Big East. Altenberger is leading the team in batting average hitting .413 on the year in 14 games.
Kevin Davis, RHP, USC-Upstate
Davis picked up his 5th save of the year this past week vs. Wofford, where he threw 1.2 scoreless innings off 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 2. USC-Upstate beat Wofford in the midweek game but lost 2 of 3 vs. Charleston Southern which moved the Spartans to 23-9 overall and 14-9 in the Big South. Davis on the year owns a 0.59 ERA in 10 appearances with 15.1 innings of work with 26 strikeouts.
Collin Wilma, RHP, SEMO
Wilma picked up a win in the series finale vs. Tennessee Tech this past weekend, where he went 6.2 innings giving up only 1 run off 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. SEMO won 2 of 3 vs. Tennessee Tech and are now 18-15 overall and 11-7 in the OVC. Wilma has a 3.20 ERA on the year.
Ryan Howe, INF, Purdue
Howe had a really good weekend offensively for the Boilermakers going 4 for 8, hitting .500 with a triple and 2 RBI's. Purdue beat Michigan State twice and Illinois once over the weekend to improve to 9-15 overall on the year.
Chase Stanke, C, Minnesota
Stanke had a really good weekend offensively for the Gophers going 4 for 8, hitting .500 with an RBI. Minnesota got swept by the 25th ranked Michigan team this past weekend and fall to 4-20 overall.
Brandon McPherson, RHP, Northern Illinois
McPherson had a really good weekend on the mound for the Huskies this past weekend vs. Ohio where he earned a win in a complete game 7 inning performance. McPherson gave up one run on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7. NIU split with Ohio this past weekend and are 7-23 overall and 6-10 in the MAC. McPherson is leading his team in ERA with a 2.64 ERA in 44 innings of work with 47 strikeouts.
Jacob Nagel, RHP, Bellarmine
Nagel took a loss this past weekend in his start vs. Kennesaw State but pitched really well going a complete game 9 innings giving up only 3 runs off 9 hits and 2 walks whiles striking out 5. Bellarmine got swept by Kennesaw State and fall to 10-22 overall and 5-10 in the ASun.
Tanner Mink, RHP, South Florida
Mink threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief vs. UCF this past weekend giving up 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. South Florida lost 3 of 4 to Central Florida and are now 13-7 overall and 3-5 in the American Conference.
Sean Sinisko, LHP, Illinois State
Sinisko picked up the only win for the Redbirds this past weekend where he went 5 innings giving up only 1 earned run off 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. ISU lost 3 of 4 to UW-Milwaukee this past weekend to fall to 13-21 overall.
Dakota Kotowski, OF, Missouri State
Kotowski put up some big power numbers this past week as he went 5 for 15, hitting .333 with 2 homers and collected 5 RBI's for the Bears. Missouri State beat Missouri in the midweek game and won 3 of 4 games vs. Evansville over the weekend to improve to 15-11 overall and 5-3 in the MVC.
Stephen Hill, 3B, Morehead State
Hill went 5 for 14, hitting .357 this past week for the Eagles with two doubles and collected 7 RBI's. Morehead State took 3 of 4 from Eastern Illinois and are now 18-13 overall and 8-4 in the OVC.
Konnor Ash, RHP, Missouri
Ash made one relief appearance vs. the 18th ranked team, Florida this past weekend. Ash went 3.1 innings giving up only 1 run off 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Missouri lost to Missouri State in the midweek game and got swept by Florida over the weekend to fall to 11-23 overall and 4-11 in the SEC.
Keaton Rice, C, Bradley
Rice collected a hit in every game he played this past weekend vs. Southern Illinois, going 4 for 11, hitting .364 with a double and 2 RBI's. Bradley won 3 of 4 games vs. SIU to improve to 12-14 overall and 6-5 in the MVC.
Nick Laxner, RHP, Eastern Illinois
Laxner made two relief appearances this past week, going a total of 5 innings giving up 2 runs off 8 hits and 1 walk with 2 strikeouts. The Panthers beat Maryville in the midweek game but lost 3 of 4 vs. Morehead State over the weekend to fall to 18-17 overall and 8-11 in the OVC.
Brandon Williams, RHP, Presbyterian
Williams earned a win in relief vs. Longwood this past weekend tossing 2.1 innings giving up only one run off 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. The Blue Hose squad took 3 of 4 from Longwood and are now 10-11 overall and 9-6 in the Big South.
Austin Ehren, OF, Belmont
Ehren went 2 for 8 this past week and helped the Bruins beat North Alabama in the midweek game and they took 2 of 3 from Murray State over the weekend to improve to 16-17 overall and 9-9 in the OVC.
Anthony Livermore, INF/OF, Northwestern
Livermore got one start in the field this past weekend vs. Indiana going 1 for 3, but the Wildcats lost 2 of 3 vs Indiana and are now 12-12 overall on the year.
Vincent Massaglia, OF, Southern Illinois
Massaglia collected 2 hits this past weekend with a homer and an RBI. Southern Illinois dropped 3 of 4 games vs. Bradley and are now 25-9 overall and 5-7 in the MVC.
