Here are the highlights from Week #9 in college baseball at the D2/D3, NAIA and JUCO level by our Top Tier Alums:
Top Tier Alumni Player of the Week:
Anthony Rios, C, Lewis (D2)
Rios had a huge weekend at the plate going 6 for 14, hitting .428 with a homer, two doubles and collected 3 RBI's for the Flyers. Lewis ended up taking 3 of 4 games from Maryville and are poised to make a playoff push in the GLVC. Lewis is 18-14 overall on the year, and Rios is hitting .321 with 9 doubles, 3 homers, and 23 RBI's.
Best of the Rest in College Baseball (D2/D3/NAIA/JUCO)
Colin Summerhill, C/OF, Triton (JUCO)
Summerhill had another great week at the dish going 5 for 10, hitting .500 with another homer, a double and 5 RBI's for the Trojans. Triton is now 21-12 overall on the year.
Joel Sarver, RHP, Northwest Florida State (JUCO)
Sarver earned his 1st save of the year vs. Gulf Coast State College this past weekend, tossing 3 scoreless innings giving up only 2 hits and 0 walks while striking out 3. The Raiders beat Tallahassee twice and split with Gulf Coast College to improve to 28-13 overall on the year.
Austin Divello, RHP, Coe (D3)
Divello earned his 4th save on the year vs. Dubuque, tossing 3 innings of scoreless relief off only 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Coe won 3 of 4 games vs. Dubuque and improved to 25-4 overall on the year.
Jacob Bosse, LHP, South Suburban (JUCO)
Bosse had a great two relief outings for the Bulldogs this past week, going a total of 4 innings giving up only 1 run on only 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 7. South Suburban is now 31-14 overall on the year.
Jack Tomich, RHP, Rollins (D2)
Tomich made one relief appearance this past weekend tossing 2.2 innings giving up 0 earned runs off 0 hits and 1 walk while striking out 1. Rollins got swept by Florida Tech and are now 9-10 overall on the year. Tomich has made 6 appearances on the year and has a 0.00 ERA.
TJ Byrd, OF, Young Harris (D2)
Byrd had a great weekend at the plate going 6 for 14, hitting .352 with a homer and 3 RBI's. Young Harris lost to the 6th ranked Lee team in the midweek game and lost 2 of 3 to the 24th ranked team, Columbus State to fall to 19-16 overall on the year. On the year, Byrd is hitting .310 with 4 doubles, 3 homers, and 19 RBI's.
Nick Baldassano, INF, Aurora (D3)
Baldassano collected a hit in every game this past weekend going 4 for 10, hitting .400 with an RBI. Aurora took 3 of 4 from Dominican to improve to 26-4 overall and are ranked 5th in the nation.
Noah Manning, RHP, Iowa Western (JUCO)
Manning made two relief appearances this past week going a total of 3.1 innings giving up 0 runs off only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 3. Manning earned a win in the series finale vs. Des Moines Area, which helped Iowa Western take 3 of 4 games from them. Iowa Western is 41-8 overall on the year.
Connor Blake, INF, Illinois Institute of Technology
Blake went 5 for 13, hitting .381 this past weekend with a double and 2 RBI's to help IIT win 3 of 4 games vs. Rockford to improve to 12-6 overall.
Andy Booth, LHP, Saint Leo (D2)
Booth made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. 8th ranked Tampa, where he went 2.1 scoreless innings giving up 0 hits or walks while striking out 2. Saint Leo got swept by Tampa and are now 7-14 overall. Booth has the best ERA on the team with a 1.80 ERA with 15 innings of work with 10 strikeouts on the year.
Brett Taucher, RHP, Quincy (D2)
Taucher made one relief appearance this past weekend for the Hawks going 3 innings giving up 0 runs off 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2. Quincy split with Rockhurst and are 23-8 overall and Taucher has a 4.20 ERA in 15 innings of work with 18 strikeouts.
Will Wirt, C, Truman State (D2)
Wirt collected a hit in every game he played this past weekend going 4 for 8, hitting .500 with an RBI. Truman State lost 3 of 4 games to Drury and slipped to 5-27 overall on the year, with Wirt hitting .259 for the Bulldogs.
Alex Mahaz, RHP, Wisconsin-Stout (D3)
Mahaz got a win in relief this past weekend, tossing 4 scoreless innings off only 3 hits and 0 walks. UW-Stout is now 12-14 overall and Mahaz is 2-0 in 16.2 innings of work with a 3.24 ERA.
Nick Villasenor, LHP, St. Francis (NAIA)
Villasenor got a win this past weekend in his start vs. Saint Xavier going 7 innings giving up 2 runs off 9 hits and 0 walks while striking out 5. St. Francis is now 19-16 overall on the year.
Brendan Holloway, OF, Oakton (JUCO)
Holloway continues to hit for the Owls going 5 for 16, hitting .313 with 2 RBI's this past week. Oakton is 22-13 overall on the year.
Luke Napleton, C, Quincy (D2)
Napleton went 2 for 5 this past weekend with a homer and 3 RBI's for the Hawks. Quincy split with Rockhurst and are now 23-8 overall.
Jacob Lotz, LHP, Lewis (D2)
Lotz made one relief appearance this past weekend vs. Maryville going 1.1 innings giving up 0 runs off 0 hits and walks while striking out 3. Lewis took 3 of 4 games from Maryville to improve to 18-14 overall. Lotz has 3 saves on the year with 27 strikeouts in 17 innings of work for the Flyers.
Robert Chayka, OF, Kentucky Wesleyan
Chayka went 2 for 2 in his one start this past weekend vs. Cedarville. Kentucky Wesleyan split with Cedarville and are 19-9 overall.
Brock Bevil, RHP, Bendectine (D3)
Bevil made one relief appearance this past week tossing 1 inning giving up 0 runs off 1 hit while striking out 1. Bendectine beat Elmhurst and swept Concordia-Chicago to extend there winning streak to 16 games and are now 22-6 overall on the year.
Dave Navarro, C, Illinois Institute of Technology (D3)
Navarro collected 3 hits this past weekend with two doubles and 3 RBI's to help IIT win 3 of 4 games vs. Rockford and improve them to 12-6 overall.
Mitch Farris, LHP, Wingate (D2)
Farris made 3 appearances in relief for the SAC Tournament this past week, going a total of 2 innings giving up 2 earned runs off 4 hits and 0 walks while striking out 1. Wingate beat Newberry in the opening game, lost to Carson-Newman then beat Catawba, Carson-Newman and Newberry in the Championship game to win the SAC Championship and earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Division 2 Tournament. Wingate finished the regular season 30-12 overall, and Farris finished the regular season with a 4.25 ERA with a 2-1 record, with a save, with 33 strikeouts in 29.2 innings of work.
Connor Tomasic, INF, South Suburban (JUCO)
Tomasic went 3 for 7 with a double and 4 RBI's as the Bulldogs improved to 31-14 overall on the year.
Nick Talarico, INF, Case Western (D3)
Talarico went 2 for 7 with an RBI vs. Ohio Wesleyan this past week as the Spartans won both games and improved to 16-8 overall.
Andrew Padilla, RHP, Webster (D3)
Padilla made one relief appearance this past week going 1 inning giving up 1 run off 3 hits and 0 walks. Webster won 3 of 4 games vs. Fontbonne and are 26-6 overall and ranked 4th in the nation.
Johnny Hernandez, C, Blackhawk (JUCO)
Hernandez collected 4 hits this past week with two doubles as Blackhawk won 9 of the 10 games to improve to 30-8 overall.
Mitch Owens, 1B, Augustana (D3)
Owens collected 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI's this past week as the Vikings beat Millikin and swept Carthage to improve to 23-5 overall. Owens is leading the team, hitting .343 on the year with 10 doubles and 21 RBI's.
Khyle Radcliffe, OF, Allen County (JUCO)
Radcliffe collected 3 hits this past week with a double as Allen County beat Coffeyville twice and lost 3 of 4 to Johnson County to move to 24-14 overall.
