Weekly Top Tier Alumni Roundup for our NCAA Division II, III, NAIA & JUCO Players:
All levels of college baseball have finally kicked off their respective seasons and we saw some eye popping numbers this past week in college baseball. Here are some of the highlights from this past week from our Top Tier Alumni in college baseball.
Player of the Week:
Mitch Farris, LHP/1B, Wingate (D2)
Farris a two-way standout for the #1 ranked team in Division 2 had an outstanding week where he went 5 for 8, hitting .625 with a homer and 4 RBI's. He also collected a win in relief on the mound tossing 2.1 innings giving up 0 runs off only 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 3. Wingate swept Anderson last week and improved to 18-2 overall on the year.
Best of the Rest Highlights for our Division II, III, NAIA & JUCO players:
Armen Torosian, UIndy (D2)
Torosian continued to stay hot at the plate for the Greyhounds as he went 6 for 14, hitting .429 this past week blasting two homers, 3 doubles and collected 7 RBI's. UIndy however lost 3 of 4 to Wayne State and are now 4-6 overall.
Sam Antonacci, Heartland (JUCO)
Antonacci had another huge week in JUCO baseball as he went 14 for 25, hitting .560 hammering two homers, 4 doubles, 2 triples and collecting 3 RBI's. Heartland went 4-2 this past week in the RussMatt Invitational down in Florida and are now 7-5 overall.
Robert Chayka, Kentucky Wesleyan (D2)
Chayka was on fire this past week at the plate as he went 7 for 16, hitting .438 with 4 homers and 6 RBI's vs. St. Leo. Kentucky Wesleyan however got swept by St. Leo and fell to 0-12 overall on the year.
Mike Carey, Missouri Valley (NAIA)
Carey had a great week at the plate going 8 for 17, hitting .471 with a homer, a double and collecting 8 RBI's. Missouri Valley is now 7-6 overall on the year.
Will Gibbs, Olney Central (JUCO)
Gibbs was on a tear this past week for the Spartans as he went 11 for 16, hitting .688 with a homer, a triple and collected 2 RBI's. Olney Central went 6-3 this past week, moving them to 9-7 overall on the year.
Austin Divello, Coe (D3)
Divello collected two saves in their opening weekend of play. Divello earned a save on opening day by tossing 3 innings giving up 0 earned runs off only 1 hit and 0 walks while striking out 4 vs. UW-Oshkosh, then he earned his 2nd save in the finale of the weekend vs. Millikin where threw to one batter getting the much needed strikeout to preserve the win. Coe split with UW-Oshkosh and Millikin and are 2-2 overall on the year.
Brandon Bennitt, IIT (D3)
Bennitt collected a hit in every game this past week going 11 for 17, hitting .647 with two doubles and collecting 5 RBI's. IIT lost to Carroll twice and lost to UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire to fall to 0-4 to start the year.
Andy Booth, St. Leo (D2)
Booth earned his 3rd win of the year in relief this past weekend throwing 4 innings giving up only 1 run off 5 hits and 0 walks while striking out 4. St. Leo swept Kentucky Wesleyan and improved to 12-7 overall on the year.
Connor Blake, IIT (D3)
Blake collected a hit every game this past week going 8 for 15, hitting .533 with 2 RBI's but IIT lost all 4 games to start to the year 0-4 overall.
Tyler Preissing, Aurora (D3)
Preissing made two relief appearances this past week where he threw a total of 2.1 innings giving up 0 runs off 1 hit and 0 walks while striking out 3. Aurora beat Wheaton, split with Wabash and lost to Buena Vista to start the year 2-2 overall.
Broghan O'Connor, Wash U (D3)
O'Connor collected a hit in every game for the Bears this past weekend going 5 for 11, hitting .455 with a homer, a double and collecting 3 RBI's. The Bears lost 2 of 3 vs. Illinois-Wesleyan and are now 1-5 overall.
Jake Lotz, Lewis (D2)
Lotz made two relief appearances this past week where he threw a total of 3 innings giving up 0 runs off only 1 hit and 4 walks while striking out 5. Lewis went 2-2 in the RussMatt Invitational in Florida this past week and are 2-7 overall on the year.
Tom Egan, Iowa Western (JUCO)
Egan earned his 1st collegiate win this past week vs. Garden City as he tossed 5 innings in his start giving up 2 earned runs off 5 hits and 0 walks while striking out 6. Iowa Western swept Garden City and improved to 8-4 overall on the year.
Cherokee LeBeau, Lewis (D2)
LeBeau went 4 for 7 with 3 RBI's this past week in the RussMatt Invitational in Florida. Lewis went 2-2 and are 2-7 overall on the year.
David Burch, Morton (JUCO)
Burch went 3 for 9, hitting .333 with 2 RBI's this past week as Morton split with North Central and are 5-3 overall on the year.
Khyle Radcliffe, John A. Logan (JUCO)
Radcliffe went 3 for 7 with a triple this past weekend as the Vols beat Carl Sandburg, ICC and Kankakee to improve to 11-3 overall on the year.
Channing Young, St. Petersburg (JUCO)
Young earned a no-decision in his start this past week but threw really well going 6 innings giving up only 2 earned runs off 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. St. Pete's lost all three games this past week and are 9-13 overall on the year.
Luke Napleton, Quincy (D2)
Napleton continues to hit the long ball this past week as he collected 4 more hits with 2 homers, a double and collected 9 RBI's. Quincy won 3 of 4 vs. Carson-Newman and are now 6-5 overall on the year.
Eric Lundell, Concordia St. Paul (D2)
Lundell made two relief appearances this past weekend and earned a win in one of them. In total, Lundell threw 3.2 innings giving up 4 runs off 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3. The Golden Bears were 2-1 to start the RussMatt Invitational in Florida and are 3-4 overall on the year.
Lucas Spence, Blackhawk (JUCO)
Spence collected 3 hits in college debut this past week with a double, a triple and an RBI. Spence also made his college debut on the mound earned a loss in his start but throwing well going 3 innings giving up 2 runs off 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4. Blackhawk lost 3 of 4 to Lakeland and are 1-3 to start the year.
Cole Anderson, Maryville (D2)
Anderson earned his 1st collegiate win in relief this past weekend as he went 1 inning vs. Truman State giving up 0 runs off 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 1. Maryville took 3 of 4 from Truman State and are now 7-4 overall on the year.
Charlie Cmiel, Blackhawk (JUCO)
Cmiel threw his 1st inning of relief in his college debut this past weekend vs. Lake Land where he gave up 0 runs of 0 hits and 2 walks. Blackhawk lost 3 for 4 to the Lakers and are 1-3 overall.
Dylan Whitney, Johns Hopkins (D3)
Whitney collected 3 hits this past weekend for the Blue Jays with one being his 1st collegiate home run. Whitney also collected 3 RBI's and Johns Hopkins beat Penn State-Harrisburg, split with Southern Maine and lost to Salisbury to move to 4-3 overall on the year.
Nick Baldassano, Aurora (D3)
Baldassano collected 3 hits this past weekend with 4 RBI's as Aurora went 2-2 to start the year.
Logan Peterson, UIndy (D2)
Peterson took the loss in his start this past weekend vs. Wayne State but he threw well in his 5 innings only giving up 3 runs off 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8. The Greyhounds lost 3 of 4 to Wayne State and are 4-6 overall.
Johnny Hernandez, Blackhawk (JUCO)
Hernandez blasted a home run and an collected an RBI in opening weekend for Blackhawk. This is the 2nd year in a row that Hernandez had a home run in opening weekend. Blackhawk lost 3 of 4 to Lakeland and is 1-3 overall.
